I broke out of my St. Emilion/ California Cab mold and gbught a few bottles each of the Super Tuscan 1997 and 1999 Casalferro by Baron Risacoli. Looked like a good way to try a Super Tuscan without spending $100 or more. Any TN's on these or other vintages?? Thanks.

David;
Ssssssssshhh. It's a neo-classic marriage of "got" and "bought"...and straight from the lexicon of the over 1000-post club. Now that you've cracked the secret code I suppose the you'll want the secret handshake, too. PS - How's the weather? My little brother is up your way doing some salmon & steelhead fishing - I think the place is called Oak Orchard Creek (about 75 miles up-lake from Buffalo). BTW - I'm a N. Tonawandite, myself, and have relatives in Buffalo. |

Funny you ask that. With every e-mail at work I sign with a small weather report. As you know, we have some of the most beautiful summers in the country. And, to put a positive spin on it, the big snowstorms give us unscheduled opportunities to stop our hectic live for a short while. When this occurs, there's nothing better to do than start a fire and , YEP YOU GUESSED IT!!! open a bottle or two of your favorite wine.

David,
I posted my notes on the '99 Casalferro here: http://web8.winespectator.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003582&p= Also look for TJ and other's TNs on the '96 here: http://web8.winespectator.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002798&p= Notes on the '98 and '99 from IW are here: http://web8.winespectator.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002171&p= For future reference, using the search button for the TNs forum in particular is a very handy thing, since it's pretty tedious to manually go through all the pages of notes here. Hope this helps. |

As Futronic mentioned this is one of my favorite Italian reds under $35. Within the last year I have had the 97,98,99. I enjoyed all three. BTW I am originally from Rochester, NY. My mom and dad were in Buffalo today. They went to go see the Modigliani (sp?) art show somewhere in Buffalo. I will be in Buffalo for a very short while on Thanksgiving day. (on my way to Toronto)

Thanks, folks. Futronic: We're going to Toronto in two weeks to see Lion King with the whole family. My 2 little nieces are 5 and 6 yrs. old. Should be great fun. Have you ever eaten at Reds Bistro on w. Adelaide?? We're looking for something sort of casual down in that area. Reds Bistro was in the Wine Spectator, but the place doesn't need to have a great wine list.
Thanks for the help. I actually have used the search button. Tough time of year, our busy season, don't always think. You know, act now , think later. Thanks again. |

David,
You'll enjoy the Lion King, and the kids will love it. I went a couple years ago, and it was a great performance. They do some really neat things during the show, but I don't want to spoil the fun and give it away. I haven't been to Red's, although a friend of mine is a bartender at one of Red's sister restaurants (Al Frisco's). He said it's a nice place, but it's a little overpriced for what you get. I'm sure if you were to call them, they'd be able to fax you a menu. Their phone number is (416) 862-7337. How many people are in your party? I may be able to make a couple recommendations. In particular I'm thinking of a place called Marinela's that is around the corner from the Princess of Wales theatre (assuming you like Italian food, of course). |

Italian is good. There will be 10 of us ( small family ). We're staying at the Colony. We haven't stayed downtown in years. We used to like staying at the Sheraton Centre. Thanks for the info.
