Just recieved the latest issue of Wine Exchange's Stoack Report and they are featuring this wine. Their comments include "one of the best shiraz deals (ever?)." ($9.99) I was wondering whether any forumites have tasted this wine, and if so, what their impressions were.

TIA.

I was intrigued by this selection also, figured for $10 it was worth a try so I placed my order. Parker list the price of this at $35 and says:

"The 1999 Shiraz is made from low yields of 1.5 tons per acre, all from young 8-year old Shiraz vines. It is a dense ruby/purple-colored, big, sweet, fat, fruit bomb with low acidity, abundant quantities of blackberry fruit, barbecue spice, smoke, and earth, plenty of glycerin, and a hedonistic, user-friendly appeal. Drink it over the next 4-5 years."

My order came in a few days ago, and I popped one of these this evening - I'm not dissapointed.

Dense purple in color, nose is a tad alcoholic, but predominately shows brambly fruit with a hint of mint. In the mouth this is rich, ripe, and fruity with a good weight balanced by bright acidity and tannins taking a backseat. Mint carries through on the palate and the finish is lengthy and fine. Excellent value for the price.

Thanks Eric! [Big Grin]

I too could not hold out. I ordered 6 bottles from winex...though they are holding them due to triple digit heat (there...Chicago has seen the arrival of fall). Hopefully they will arrive by the end of this week or beginning of next.

I will post TN's when I have them.

Peace.

Better double check and ensure they are holding your order. I too had asked them to hold my order (in the special instructions when placing my order). To my horror, my wine arrived - on MONDAY! Meaning it sat with UPS all weekend. [Mad] Specifically what I wanted to avoid! [Mad] [Mad]

Two different wines opened, and thankfully no damage or evidence of cooked wine. [Cool]

Eric,

I'm sorry, I seem to have dropped the ball. [Roll Eyes] Yes, I have had a couple of bottles now. It is very nice, big open fruit, but some structure too. I can see why Parker liked it; he seems to go for the bigger, bolder wines. It did not seem overly flabby, nor did it have that ultra simplistic grapy component like most Shiraz at this price point. Wonderful quaffer.

In fact, after tasting a bottle, I ordered another case from Winex. At $9.99, it's a steal. (By the way, I recently saw this wine at a large Chicago retailer for $19.99 a bottle).

IMHO this is the best QPR (albeit a sale QPR) that I have found recently.

Peace.

[Edit: I'm sorry for the overly general tasting report, since I did last tasted this wine a week ago. I will taste another within the next few days and give a report that is more befitting our passion. [Smile] ]
