  • 2003 Lewis Cellars Chardonnay Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/18/2005)
    Light golden colour almost burgundy like with a melon and stone fruit nose. This was a pretty damn good chardonnay. Meursault like in its terroir, agressive oak upfront, crisp tart apples,melon and vanilla fading away to a smooth finish. (95 pts.)

Flubis;

Finally opened my first bottle of 2003 Lewis Chard. Res.

I agree completely with your notes as this chard. has a serious backbone Razz (It reminded me a little of Talbot cuvee Audery Wink)

I agree definately 95CK pts.

Flubis:

I have had this (and the other Lewis Chards) several times. Yes, it is cloudy. Not fined or filtered.

Right now, I actually prefer the Barcaglia bottling -- more fruit, not as much new, heavily toasted oak aroma and flavor.

But all are solid in my book!

HDW, the Barcaglia was the only one I did not get. I got alot of the others so skipped on that. Sounds like I need to find a few of those too. The 2003's seem to be a bit more cloudy than in the past. The reserve more so than the Napa, how was the Barcaglia clarity compared to the Reserve or Napa ?

YES it was cloudy!

I noticed this as one of us had another "house" chard. I thought this was do to not being filtered?

Amazing chard.

Had this again the other night. WOW what a difference. I am pissed I only have one of these left now. This is a great California Chard.

This bottle was not cloudy at all( I came to the conclusion, we were serving it too cold before), but showed wonderful clarity and colour. Again, I have to say this is a terroir driven wine. Steely, bright minerals and crispness on the palate. Honeydew, white peaches and very well integrated oak. It has nice body, but yet a lightness to it that is refreshing. 40 + sec finish.

If you have more of this, try one now. It is starting its time. 96 pts

Just drank my last of six, and it showed the best of all. Great viscosity, still a tad of cloudiness, but the smoky oak was integrated with the substantial fruit. It more than held its own to the lobster thermador.
