N.V. Krug Champagne Grande Cuvée - France, Champagne (7/27/2006)
WIML93,WA92,WS95

Tasted July 27, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a house provided Champagne flute. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with light beading. Nose of yellow apples, pears, brioche, a bit yeasty. Flavors of sharp yellow apples, pears, maybe a touch crème with some citrus notes. Good acidity with good balance. Medium bodied. Drink over the short term. No value recommendation. (93 pts.)

I'm not a fan of the Grand Cuvee. It seems to be the antithesis of what I seek in Champagne. (ie- It's too big. No delicacy.)

Just one more sip.

Admittedly, I dig Krug. I'd brought the chablis, and this particular bottle of Krug simply came along for "fun". That is, how this bad boy had been stored was an unknown.

That being said, a few weeks ago I brought a bottle of Krug & the '96 Grande Dame (storage had not been an issue with either of these two bottles) to a relatively high end cali cab tasting. That bottle of Krug was singing. I remember being surprised that more than one person said it was their WOTN. (And, no, I didn't get the sense that they were either joking or being polite. These guys aren't that nice...) <LOL> ;-) :-)

Did I miss something here or is skosh just talking to her multiple personalities? Wink

Hey GD,

No, but you'd think my friend (whose name shall remain unmentioned) would have the courtesy to give me a heads-up that he'd deleted his responses. To him I say: Razz Wink Smile

Hmmm...me thinks I missed something while sipping yet more Champagne last night. Confused

kumazam, I'm trying to play nice whenever I can. Otherwise, the Internet police (i.e. Librarian Vino Me and his Sargent at Arms Green Drazi) would give me severe tongue lashings for multiple threads. Wink

However, if I'm in a rush, I do reserve the right to revert to my old ways just to piss people off. Big Grin

wiml, we all were a little confused. Confused

Best guess from most was that skosh was mixing her medicine with her wine again. Red Face

That said, she was having great conversation with herself last night on this post and the "What are you drinking?" post as well.

I'm sure all is well this fine day. Wink

Was this one of the bottles procured from Squirreljam? If so, I had one of the two bottles show a little less favorably than usual. I hit it right around 91-92 points. The second bottle was much, much better.

Yup. That's why it was a "warm up" bottle. It was not bad, but simply not what the NV Krug can be. Smile

For the sake of continuity, and because you never know when someone might want to teach an old note a new trick, here's a link to an earlier thread on Krug Grande Cuvée.

No lashing, no bashing, no pain, no gain.

N.V. Krug Champagne Grande Cuvée - France, Champagne (12/31/2006)
WIML93,PURPLE90,~WA92,~WS95

Tasted December 31, 2006 at 1:17PM exactly. Why? Because it was exactly this time 23 years ago I said “I do” to my lovely bride. Here is to 23 years of wedded bliss! Tasted from 375ml format. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel Vinum Cuvee Prestige Champagne glass. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with a light, fine mousse. Yeasty nose upon opening with some notes of pears, yellow apples and brioche. Later showing some roasted almond notes. Flavors of yellow apples, pears and citrus notes with a minerally (maybe limestone) component I haven’t picked up on before. Consistent with previous tastings, probably one of the better bottlings to date. Drink over the next 3 years or so. Recommended as always. (93 pts.)

Well done Futronic!

Nice to finish such an awesome BdM lineup with such excellent bubbles.
Next time I might be tempted to fly in for an offline like this!

I'm sure we'll be doing the 4th annual one next year!

That said - this was at the beginning of the night, even though my note was posted after all the Brunello.

This was at Binny's for $120 and it skyrocketed to $190. Frown I enjoyed this a lot when I tried it.
