2001 Pine Ridge Andrus Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/11/2008) Rich, lush cherry and fresh brewed coffee with wonderful earthy undertones. Creamy, mouth coating heft that makes one think of drinking hot chocolate. Nice oak structure. My first experience with this wine, I'd say it is just entering its prime drinking window but will continue improving and stay there for years to come. (93 pts.)
I have to agree. This is a wonderful wine that got no respect from the critics upon release. Good now, but it's an ager with a long life ahead of it. Must have been a beast upon release...
I can't remember my eBob logon right now to check if they rated it. WS seems to have not rated the 01. Worth noting is that the 2000, a vintage generally considered less than stellar got a 92 from WS. But who looks at points?
This wine was good enough to make me fire up Wine Searcher. It's hovering above $100. A nice chunk of change, but I've paid more for less. See my TN on Levy McClellan.
Some collectors tend to not pay much attention to these premium bottlings from established, larger Napa producers. They might score okay, but collectors keep chasing the "cults." In a good vintage, these are just the wines you want to seek out.
