  • 2004 Martinelli Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (5/20/2006)
Purchased from the winery for $42. An unabashed candied fruit bomb of a zin, with seriously high octane (alcohol 16.6%). Lots of syrupy, cough medicine notes and a bruising wave of heat on the finish. May need another 6 months or a 3-hour decant to fully appreciate its wares. Nonetheless, a blast to drink and one that will surely grab your attention. (90 pts.)

otisabdul --- I really enjoyed the 2004 G&L, and you're right, it is high test supreme. Be sure not to get the candle too close to the top of the bottle or you might have a flame thrower on your hands! Super fruity & concentrated, I think it will stand with the Martinelli Jackass wines, and is exceptional for the vintage. It is a WOW wine that I rated --- 94/95 points.

2004 Martinelli Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (7/6/2008)
WIML88

Tasted double blind July 6, 2008 at an offline.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose was a little tight with some white pepper notes, berries and just a tad of a green streak. Flavors of berries and cherries. Alcohol is too high and a little out of balance. Light to medium acidity, medium tannins, medium to full body. After the bag was removed I think the alcohol was 16 or 16.9%. (88 pts.)

16.9% alc for a Zinfandel?? Wow, I would rather get a Port instead if I am going to go that high in alc.
