The first thing that I noticed was how smooth this was; full mouthful of fruit; rich texture.
This is a Dry Creek Zin. The mix is 92% Zinfandel with the balance from Petite Sirah. I did not notice any sharp taste that sometimes comes with younger PS. It may have been softened by the oak aging and the rich Zin fruit. Fruit is very balanced; black cherry/rasberry tones. Acid is balanced as well. WS rated this 88 -- I would be inclined to bump it a little higher. |

I had this at a restaurant - $48; I would guess that the retail is around $25. I will look for it this weekend.

JEB, you're right on with both your notes and the price, should be widely available for $20-$25. Another great zin from a great producer.

I like the Rockpile, too. I recall reading that Rockpile was recently designated as its own AVA, so I guess the next vintage of this wine won't be designated Dry Creek.
I posted previously about a number of the 2000 Rosenblum Zins, including the Planchon and the Annette's Reserve, but the one that I've been really liking lately is the Old Vines -- nice and round, with rich berry fruit and some spiciness. Anyone else try this one? |
