I bought this on a lark- at $8.79, I thought it was worth a shot. The 2000 got an 85 from WS, the 2001 is unrated (as far as I know). I did not decant.

-very cool, dusty red; 3/5 intensity; very clear
-forward nose with blackberry pie, and buttery, spicey vanilla- quite interesting
-fairly simple cherries with a touch of mocha, not as complex and interesting as the nose; quite dry; well integrated, balanced acids; tannins a touch potent compared to the rest, slightly drying; finish of dried cherries and bitter chocolate; light to medium mouthfeel

Overall, a decent package, reasonably balanced, not a fruitbomb, could be a little more complex, I'd say 86-87 and worth trying if you are surveying cheap zins- won't blow your socks off, but not disappointing for the $$.

Cheers.

I never drank anything stronger than beer... before I was twelve.- W.C. Fields
