One big disclaimer: this bottle was purchased at winecommune.com and arrived with some leakage. (The jerk who sent it refused to take it back, despite the fact that the capsule was completely gone, and the cork showed a stain where it had leaked.) My intention was to age this, but due to the leakage, I opened it recently with Sandy Fitzgerald and his wife.

Given a very short double decant - searing intensity at that point; an hour later put into a decanter for about two hours before consuming. Very dark color, but not as purple/black as I expected. Sweet caramel and raspberry nose. Palate was fairly layered, but mostly with fruit – blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry. A fabulous pork loin brought out some smokiness, and I even got a bit of French roast coffee with brown sugar impressions at the end. Not as aromatically effusive as is common for SQN’s reds, but it did have the characteristic smoothness and roundness. Very, very enjoyable, and I look forward to trying subsequent releases (Ode to E, 17th Nail, etc.).

You should out the guy that sold it to you. I don't want to accidentally buy wine from this jerk.

I have no qualms with that; this guy deserves this and more. Basic summary of the discussion (quotes are actual excerpts):

stickman: Despite the fact that the description said this bottle was in perfect condition, the capsule has been completely removed, and there is a leakage stain at the top of the cork. I'd like to return the bottle for a refund.
seller: That stain is probably from the wax capsule, not wine.
stickman: The wax was red; this is purple. Definitely not a wax stain.
seller: I don't believe it; show me.
stickman: [sends two digital images via email]
seller: "So some wine ran up a cork while the bottle was in repose. I have hundreds of bottles like that and never has it affected the contents... Stop whining."
stickman: I'm very disappointed in your response. I will contact winecommune about this.
seller: "just to make you go away, I'll take the bottle back for a $50 'hassle' fee and you return it two day service" [fwiw, it was originally shipped 3-day service]
stickman: You want to make a profit from lying to me? 'Sorry, not playing that game.
seller: "You're an idiot."

seller = andykossin2

Unfortunately, my contact at winecommune was very polite but refused to take any action. Frown Chalk it up to a lesson learned... a very expensive lesson, to be sure.

Thanks for the additional information stickman. I've actually considered buying some of his lots in the past. If it makes you feel any better your loss here as guaranteed I'll never be taken by this loser in the future. Thank you.

Nothwithstanding the problem with this bottle, the wine was tremendous.

Thanks Stickman for bringing it and the Kracher #10. Big Grin
