Picked this up for $17 for a 750ml. If you can find this at anywhere near that price, it is a STEAL.

Golden in color with an exploding nose of spicebox and caramel. Sweet on the palate with caramel, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla, with the slightest hint of orange peel. Certainly complex, to say the least. A nice finish, too. Excellent with a dessert of fresh berries and cookies.

This must be the definition of what our friends down under call a "stickie"! I cannot recommend this wine highly enough. Buy it!

FTG, Seppelt make some magnificent Tawny ports. I haven't heard of a Trafford label (might be export only), but look out for their best Tawny, called DP90. More expensive ($80 AUS), but will blow you away.

I like Seppelts tawny as well. Nice notes FTG.

Aussie,
Can you explain Seppelts facination with letters and number denoting quality?

I believe Penfolds Bin numbers derive from the fact they used to ferment and mature a wine of particular type (e.g. Kalimna) in a large bricked off part of the cellar called a 'Bin'. Leo Buring used a letter and number system based on where the Riesling harvest had come from and a few other factors. I'm not 100% sure what Seppelts system is based on, but it's likely something similar. I recently went to Seppelt in the Barossa (they also have a cellar door at Great Western in Vic), and they have an amazing cellar with huge puncheons full of ageing fortified. I imagine the coding systems allow them to keep track of all the different styles of fortified they have.

Leo Buring! Man, I haven't seen that name in a long time. [Smile]

Next you'll be telling us that you used to drink Kaiser Stuhl and Barossa Pearl. Any of those still around?

Geez, Barossa Pearl !!! [Big Grin] I think my old man may have tasted it. I believe Kaiser Stuhl may still be selling plonk in one form or another. I wouldn't put Leo Buring in their lowly class though. They have continued to make brilliant rieslings under the Leonay label for years.

Barossa Pearl...Ha Ha Haaaa !!!
