I have a 750 that has been cellared since release (college graduation gift). My 20th anniversary is coming up next month and would like to know how this wine is drinking. Alive? Past its prime? Drinking well? Any notes would help me make my decision.

Longboarder Open your 1982 and I don't think you will find that dark/black-purple inky juice that they make today! Angelus changed hands in the mid 1980's(?) and started making a excellent wines. However, before 1985/86, I'm afraid their wines were not very good.

Also, Angelus was a great bargain until the 1995 vintage. (I think I paid $20/$25 for some late 80's vintages, and less than $45 for my last purchase in 1994. Catching a winery in transition provides a wonderful experience and bargain! I no longer buy Angelus! Frown

Latour67 - Thanks for the info. I will open it soon but probably not for my anniversary. I know much more about left bank wines and very little about the right bank. Do you know the composition of the '82 (i.e. % of Merlot, etc.)? More curious than anything.

I would drink it now. WS gave it 87 points and wrote the following in 1998:

quote:
A weak period for this estate. Medium-garnet in color, with a ruby center. Pretty floral, berry and dried cherry aromas. Medium-bodied, with tobacco and fruit flavors, medium tannins and a slightly short finish.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now.
