Now that some of the 2001 wines had arrived, and many of us got part of our delievery, I am interested to see how people would rank their favorite and least favorite producer's wine for 2001 now, compare to earlier this year:). Please list the producers below in order ( favorite/best first) for 2001 vintage

Egon Muller, Muller Catoir, JJ Prum, Dr.Loosen, von simmern, scholoss vallard, Frit Haag, Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg, Robert Weil, Keller, Maximin Grünhaus, Selbach-Oster, Donohoff, and whichever producers you can come up with .

Thanks

for one, I'm confused that you have a more than a dozen "favorites", but that's neither here nor there.

I'm also confused by you listing Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg and Maximin Grünhaus as favorite producers, since these are wines that are themselves produced, the EK by Karthauserhof and the MG by several producers.

What I've been drinking this year have been mostly wines from Ed. Weegmuller, Johann Peter Reinert and Keller.

I think I am most pleased with the Weegmullers.

JJ Christofel is my top. I'm sure Mueller-Catoir will replace it. I loved the Dr. Loosen Kabinett. I have never found JJ Prum wines to show that well very young, so I haven't tried any of the 2001s yet.

Christoffel is on top of my list, too. It seems like Terry Theise, the Tanzer German expert (sorry but I keep forgetting his name) and others who are much more knowledgeable than I am, are saying the same thing as well. I've been impressed with Donnhoff, J.J. Prum (which normally does not show early like whiner points out), Weins-Prum and Meulenhoff, but the Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten spatlese 2134 blew me away. The Fritz Haag did not show well, but Tanzer's expert put it right behind Christoffel. I loved the Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg auslese, but Tanzer's guy panned it. People speak highly of Dr. Loosen, but I was not impressed with his Wehlener Sonnenuhr spatlase, so who knows. I personally think the Mosel's for 2001 are just outstanding in general. Of course, we are drinking all of these 7-8 years too early, so some of the conflicting opinions are understandable.
