One of the few wines I've bought without benefit of a score from someone. I chose it because the catalogue TNs mentioned "black cherry, rich, full-bodied with a lingering finish", all things we look for in a red. And the wine store guy said it was good stuff too.
And we got all of the above. This is a very good value too, at CAD$22.40. It was recommended to match BBQ ribs, which is exactly what we did. I'd score it about 87-88 points. We had it along with the Penfold Bin 2 shiraz/mouvedre, which also suggested a match with ribs, and this one slapped the Bin 2 silly!
We had a bottle of the '98 vintage of this last night with lamb stew; it's a touch darker than the '99, with some sage and anise elements and a pretty long finish. I'd rate it just a point or two higher, but these wines are consistently good and good value. They can take 2-5 years of aging, putting on some weight in the bottle. I think this wine reflects excellent QPR.
