Any one have any tasting notes or other comment on this wine? It will sell for about CAD$22 (which seems steep compared to the USD$ price) next month here in Ontario. Kumazam mentioned it in another thread, and I cannot find any info about it. Is it really abundantly rich? What is is like? An Aussie shiraz? Or less rich than that?

snow sucks.......

bman

before i start spitting off what i know about Abundance Vineyards, let me say my experience starts w/ the 01' Abundance, so in relation specifically to the 00' Rich Red, i might not be much help.

for comparison's sake, the 01' is like a rich Aussie Shiraz or Calif Syrah... extremely forward, sweet on the nose and palate w/ some added oak to compliment the fruit, fruit, fruit. extremely smooth to drink young, i don't think this wine is meant to age much at all after release. relative to other good wines it might seem rather simple, but that shouldn't take away from it being tasty, this is a great "everyday" wine by all means.

your price is high but from what i've seen Canadian wine enthusiasts have to deal with... the 01' can be had here in the states for $9-11 at the most.

We tried this a week or so ago and really liked it a lot. I cannot remember specific flavours but it seemed a bit zin-like and well worth the CAD$22 we paid. I've already got three more bottles.

Thanks to Kumazam for recommending it! Smile

Thanks for the offer but I'll pass. It almost impossible to ship wine into Canada in any case, even just a bottle or two (thought it seems to work between BC and Chicago for some reason...)

What's in it Vitis, it doesn't say anything about the blend on the bottle. Confused

I have no idea, do they have a web site on the bottle? My guess is a lot of Zin and smaller portions of a lot of different reds.

i was told by my wine-shop-owning friend who turned me on to this wine (specifically the 01') that the blend is Cab Franc, Merlot, & 3 diff. Syrah's... after reading what Vitis put up i'm not so sure now. wouldn't be surprised if it's just a blend of syrah's... either way, it's a tasty wine

Now that you mention it, it did taste much like a zin.

I'm trying '03 Abundantly Rich Red for first time tonight. It's supposed to be a blend of Zin and Carignane (%?). Not sure if it has settled down to its true form yet, but I found it pleasantly dry and dusty, almost Old World/Chianti-style, with a generous helping of tannins. This is in contrast to fruit-forward comments made on earlier vintages. Probably shows my failings as a taster. Anyone tried this vintage?
