If and when the SAQ runs another of the their 15%-or-20%-off-purchases-over-$100 type sales, I'll will try to get some of this, it's easily one of the top three Aussies I've had, with Command and Stonewell.

I know but the road is long and hard in order to catch up to Steve8's collection.

Bman, it is being released in Ontario for 10$ bucks more in one of the Sept releases(30ths I think). I'll keep you posted or pick some bottles up for you if a sale occurs; hopefully, before our Ottawa offline in September

I've noted that it will soon be , as is CADC$90 in Quebec.

I subscribe to SAQ's email alerts to generally note when there is a sale. For example, I picked up some halves of 2000 Fonseca yesterday from the online sale (Steve8 - Cool)

But this communication and co-operation across the Ottawa River is good, we can help each other, I hope. Smile

    WIML95,NOWA,WS97

Tasted April 22, 2006 at LilacWine’s house in Fredericksburg, TX. Opened and served hours later in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of roasted coffee, chocolate, black berries and plums. Flavors of black cherries, plums, black currants and pepper. Considering how long after this bottle was opened it was tasted and that it was likely opened at least five years too early FOR A FIRST TASTING I’m betting this will be an excellent wine in due time. Rating reflects that. Hold for at least five years before visiting again. Considering this could be an excellent wine some day at a price of around $70.00 a bottle I’d consider the value to be somewhere between highly recommended and excellent. (95 pts.)

wiml,

I own two bottles of Ozzie wine (1 for each cellar Wink)and one is the 1998 E&E Black Pepper.

From the tasting note above looks like we should find a reason to open it soon.

Bman,

HOpefully the next time that you come back to Windsor and we do an offline, we can do a Shiraz themed, or at least included. I have a 98 Black Pepper and a Black Guts that I have been dying to try and have not found the right occasion.

of course, Gman and I are discussing a get together, so you might have to come in for that.

Regards, Dale

Now that's what I call pressure !!
Not to worry, I'm quite convinced you will enjoy this, but hold on to it for a few more years.

Dale, sadly, it's time-consuming and expensive to get down to Windsor, but I am determined to be there at least once a year. And with a son at University of Waterloo next month, I'll be close more often, at least. A shiraz offline would be too cool. Cool

This wine is developing nicely (Costco now for $67). I have to say that I am a shiraz lover and find this wine a particular gold mine. I started with the idea of sneaking a glass and letting the rest sit out until tomorrow but I could not resist. Tremendously rich and smooth and did not take long to fold back. Harvey nailed this one to a "T" by mentioning layer upon layer but it is the silky tannins that make this wine a killer choice. You can find me at Costco tomorrow stashing all I can afford; The best shiraz I have ever tasted.

escape,
I have some 98 & 02 E&E in my cellar but have not opened yet. The best Shirazs I have enjoyed so far have been the 00 & 01 Elderton Command.

Since you are a Shiraz lover, how would you compare the two?

As best I can describe without a side by side, the only differences (in notes taken - and the differences seem minor) Command of 01 had an espresso quality that I have seen more in South African Shiraz. Both are wonderful and I would have difficulty chosing otherwise. I have not had the pleasure of tasting the 2000 Command.

Espresso = toast level in the oak (in most cases.) many of the top end Oz Shiraz have this character.

Hello everybody,

I am a newbie on this forum, and much to my surprise, I realize 1) like a lot of you here, I have also bought the E and E bottle (I know , that was the subject of this particular thread...), haven't tasted it yet, and reading your mails, I should hang on for a while
2) There's a lot of people from Montreal here, hehe

Any other other bottle of particular delight, Aussie style, that are worthy of special recommandation?

Finally tasted one of the two bottles I bought a few months ago and while I liked it a lot, it was a big of a disappointment, given its price. I expect that has more to do with its youth and my preference for aged wines than anything else.

I tasted black pepper (no, really?! Roll Eyes), black cherry, anise, tar, nutmeg and cardamom. This is classic, voluptuous Barossa shiraz but needs another 3-5 years at least to show at its best.

At this tasting, I score it 92 points.

I have 2 bottles of 2002 and 2 bottles of 1998. The 02s I know need more time, so those are laying down for a while. Any suggestions on when to pop the 98s?

Thanks

Everybody can laugh at me for giving this such a high score, but I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Big Grin

Two hour decant.

Almost entirely opaque. Nose of cherry and pepper. Wow, this is a full-throttle shiraz! Flavors of black cherry and black pepper dominate at first, followed by raspberry and white pepper on the finish. Extraordinary depth and complexity, rounded out by sweet, juicy tannins. Long, balanced finish. Full-bodied, mouth watering and outstanding. Probably the best shiraz I have ever had.

40+5+5+19+20+9=98

The Australians have their good wines. I have enjoyed the Amon-Ra 2004 and a Kaesler that was from 1999.

Nice note. I would not think your score is out-of-whack from the comments I heard about this wine.

Quick question: Is it a fruit bomb with or without finesse?
