  • 2004 Radio-Coteau Zinfandel Von Weidlich - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (3/29/2006)
This is a fleshy, boisterous Zin without being overbearing -- Kind of like an orchestra playing fortissimo, but pefectly in tune. Lovely raspberry, cream and spice jump from the glass to your taste buds. Mint and wood smoke play backup. Wonderfully balanced. This is an impressive wine and certainly supports the belief that this varietal is a world-class sophisticate. Lovely mouthfeel of sweetness and charm. However, after extended air-time (+2 hours) the doubts start to arise about being able to hold on to this for a few years. The wine starts to turn hot and sour and what was elegant becomes more awkward. Drink now and within the first 2 hours for 91 points. (91 pts.)
