1996 Helena View Johnston Vineyards Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Tradition - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/5/2005) Dark purple color, great dark fruit nose. Cherry and other fruit on the pallet, Still a little tight, could still go a few more years in the bottle. This must be decanted because there is a lot of sediment in the bottle. (89 pts.)
seanr7; I had this wine at a Ruth's Chris in Jacksonville, FL a few years back and found it incredibly tight and alcoholic. Unfortunately, we didn't have enought time to decant properly, as I'm sure it would have performed better.
I'm a huge fan of their Cab Franc bottlings; they fade in color quickly (to a rusty reddish-brown) but the nose and palate remain intensely complex and delicious.
Did you buy this retail, or at an restaurant - you don't see much of this in the retail market.
