  • 2000 Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (7/10/2008)
Decanted, the wine had no sediment at all.
    Ruby red color.
On the nose some barnyard, tar, dark fruits and sous bois.
On the palate, this is overly sweet, thin and with a ridiculously short finish.
Thank god I had only bought one bottle!

Nose sounds pretty nice but it is strange to see a Sabon wine being thin and sweet.
I never tried his Cuvee Reservee, only his Prestige and regular and I usually a big fan of his wines.
Thanks for the notes!

I don't know.
This is my first experience with this producer. At first I thought the wine could have been damaged but besides the palate everything else was OK.

This wine can't be close to ready to drink. I'm betting it's closed, if not damaged.

Just one more sip.

Board-O, have you tried his Cuvee reservee? I'd be interested in other notes for other vintages.
The different Cuvee Prestige I had were all drinking very well at around 10 years. They're all on the ripe and plump side but always balanced. They will age nicely but I'm not sure if they will actually improve much after 10-12 years based on the style of that wine.

I own it, but haven't tried it.

Just one more sip.

That could be the case Board-O. I'm not one to open young Chateauneuf but I didn't think it was one for the long haul, and this is probably why I just bought one. Who knows...

My personal experience with the Sabon wines is that they need a lot of time. I have found that they stay pretty tightly closes when they are young and your notes sound a lot like my impressions of a CDP that is young.
