To Vitis Vinifera or anyone -

What can you tell me about Berghold Vineyards in Lodi? At last years Rhone Rangers event I was impressed with their Syrah offering. So much so that I bid on - and won - a 3L bottle of the 1999 Syrah.

Not much info on the web about them, I wonder what your thoughts are on this producer?

Berhold Vineyards is Joe Berghold's new baby. Joe's a cool guy, and a longtime Lodi grower. I was there for his first vintage, 97, and quality quickly improved to what you see now. I know I've seen a Syrah and a Viognier, not sure if other varietals are planned.

Berghold is part of this new wave of Lodi producers.....mostly longtime growers who want to turn some of their production into the higher-margin wine biz by giving a bit of their crop very special attention, and producing that. Like Mettler Family Vineyards, Borra-Nicholas, etc.

I am not quite sure what you are asking....but that's the lowdown as I see it.
