1999 Rosemount GSM – Bought half a case a year ago. Pulled from cellar and decanted for aeration. Dark red but nowhere near inky; clear, typical color. Primarily cherry on the nose, a little earth. Medium bodied, light but present tannins, low acidity. Cherry, moderate oak, and a little smoke and leather on the fairly substantial finish – about 20 seconds or so. Very pleasant for what I paid for it – half price, $13/btl. I wouldn’t knock people down trying to get to it, but look forward to the next bottle. Limited aging potential – I see it cresting in two years max. 88-89 pts.
BTW – this is my first WS Forum tasting note! How’d I do?
Slight 'Bricking' in the colour. Subtle nose that mjbleck described in January of 2003...plum and cherries with smokey leather and a hint of vegetation. I dare say, though drinkable, IMHO, the best year(s) of this wine is behind it...It was not all bad...there was some mature flavours, but muted...somewhat flat, finish was slighly sour.
low 80's
Canadian weather? Nine months of hockey and three months of bad ice.

It probably wouldn't have been so bad if you only paid 13$ for it, eh Tyee ? I agree with your impressions on it, I'd be more likely pour it in the sauce myself.

Hi Mish I don't even remember what I paid for this wine... It was my last bottle...though not exactly 'In-Your-Face' big (fruit), I recall the previous 2 bottles I had being more pronounced. It would appear that mjbleck's prediction "Limited aging potential – I see it cresting in two years max." in Jan '03 was right on the mark!
