Yes, you read the year correctly. I just got a bottle of this as a birthday present....

I've heard of some whites that can go ten years... but I somehow doubt this is one of them.

Any opinions? TNR's?

Both the '94 and '95 deteriorated quickly, under 4 years.

I'd be very surprised if this wine has anything resembling fruit left in it, but I'd sure love to read that I'm wrong.

Please post a TN after you've had it, Revlis (unless you're planning to re-gift it, of course [Smile] ).

I think the experience justifies opening it myself. I will indeed post a TN. I've never had an "aged" chardonnay. hehe

Open near a drain. In the last year I had a Beringer '94 Viognier (undrinkable), and the '94, '96 and 98 PR Chard (way past prime, past prime and starting down, respectively. These don't last long.

Eric,

I do!! And well... should that really be opened? Even make an attempt at it? I was just going to keep it to keep it and have people go "ooooohhh" and "aaaaah" over it.

I had a '96 Beringer PR chard a few months ago that had definitely seen better days.

Revlis - YES! OPEN IT! Well, not right now, but soon. It stands a chance at being outstanding, and at the very least will be "good" and certainly interesting. Please post TNs when you pop it.

Eric, if these are the '78 Leroys recently sold by a certain bay area shop, I've yet to hear of a good one. I got 3, opened one, and it was pretty bad. Also, the foil was depressed over the corks, making it look like they may have been pushed down...

The wine in question is as dead as a doornail. I suggest opening the wine whenever you are in need for vinegar for a salad.

Obesewhales -

Yes, that's the one, from Premier Cru. I've opened 2 so far. Neither was bad, both were quite drinkable, and for me it's interesting to see what a 24 year old white Burg is like. Top Ten also picked some up and reported here that one was supurb, while another was just ok. I'm hoping one or more of the three I've got left fall into the supurb category.
