Okay, here goes... my first tasting notes ever...
This is actually 3 different wines. The premise is to take one vineyard and let 3 different winemakers determine when to pick 1/3 grapes and let them make the wine. The bottles are only sold in sets of 3. I believe I paid around $100.
Tres Sabores Zinfandel Rudy Zuidema 1999
This was the dog of the bunch. There was some unidentifiable chemical smell on the nose that carried over to the tasting. You could spot some very green, vegetable taste, but that was about it. If there was ever any fruit there, the liquid draino must have wiped it out long ago.
Tres Sabores Zinfandel Karen Culler 1999
This wine was pleasant enough, rounded with some nice jammy fruit. It had a very interesting nose, immediately reminding me of caramels, but that taste never came out in the mouth. This wine was the one ready to drink now. It was balanced with barely discernable tannins.
Tres Sabores Zinfandel Ken Bernards 1999
Like the previous wine, this one promised more on the nose than it could deliver. Upon pouring, the bowl of the glass filled with a very nice, fruity nose. However, there wasn't nearly as much fruit once you tasted it. True, there was some berry and cherry fruit with a bit of leather or tobacco thrown in, but the flavors seemed to be more in contest with each other than in harmony. It finished with pretty pronounced tannins, so perhaps this one will go somewhere. Down perhaps?
So one bad wine, and two drinkable, but not great, wines. Bad deal for $100.
