I've been remiss in keeping the forum updated with our local offlines just in case there happens to be travelling forum members in the area so I'll try to do better in the future.
The DAWGS will have their monthly offline for May 2005 at WineDrinkerofTexas' house this weekend, May 29th, starting at 4:30PM. If there are any travelling forum members or locals that I don't already know about that wish to attend let me know. We'd love to have you as our guest!

We are actually visiting a good friend and his family this weekend in Dallas. He lives right next to the SMU campus. Are you anywhere near there? What is the format if I am able to come, what to bring, etc...

merris, the offline is going to be at one of the member's home in Colleyville (i.e. near the airport). On a Sunday afternoon the drive wouldn't be bad at all if you'd like to make the trek over.
The wine format is "Any white excluding Chardonnay, any red excluding Cabernet Sauvignon". We're doing this one poolside at WineDrinkofTexas' home. People that want to swim can show up at 3ish. Wine and food officially start at 4:30PM (right!).
If you can make it let me know. It would be nice to meet you.

I have a friend in Plano who would like to join your group, but he's a bit shy. He's a semi-newbie to wine, but very enthusiastic and wants to learn more, plus he's hopeful of finding a few friends in the Dallas area who enjoy food & wine. Single, 40's, funny, smart. He's attended off-lines with me in New Orleans and here in Napa, so he's familiar somewhat with the drill.

thanks & cheers, Michelle

Although I am obviously not Bella Donna I do not think the DAWGS would have any problems with a new wino joining in. WIML is the unofficial leader and keeper of the email list for the DAWGS but if they were willing to take me in I am sure they would be willing to take anyone.

I assure you it's no joke, and I have absolutely no idea why that would even occur to you. I appreciate your kind consideration of my friend. he's a good guy, I hope he fits in. Definitely not gay. A little geeky, but aren't we all?

WIML Sorry I wasn't able to make it. I did try some Texas wine at a place at the Stockyards in Fort Worth. Tried 4...the only one that I remember the name was Becker Claret...it was OK but did not taste or smell anything like claret. The one we liked the best was an unfortified "Port" but I don't remember who the producer was. Sounds like you guys had a great time. Our schedule was too slammed with other "touristy" stuff to add anything else.

Speaking of which, we just polished off a bottle of Torre di Pietra, "Red Flirt" out of Fredricksburg. Bit sweet & jammy with just barely 'nuff tannins to keep it together.

New one on me. I haven't heard of that one.
Thanks for coming skosh. Look forward to seeing you in June.
