[We'd make fun of DC, but with all the pot-holes, you can't pick up enough speed to see how good their drivers are.][/QUOTE]

Us in The D of C just laugh at you MD and VAers as we pass you on the reverse commute! Life is good, potholes and all!

Just watch out for Metro buses!

I live in the Roanoke area (sometimes).

Tried to bring bottles to Inn a few years ago. Denied. Virginia law states you can only bring own wine if you are in a private room not visible to the main dining room (I later learned, by calling the Virginia ABC). I was just there w. one other person to sit the main dining room. May work w. offline in private room of course.

Screwed up law, huh? Lots of restaurants don't even know it, and if you know of one, don't let the cat out of the bag by revealing the rule to them!

If anyone's interested, I've got a club in Chesapeake VA, with decent corkage fees, and no corkage on Wednesday's.

Hello Prez and other VA users-

I am in Charlottesville and am looking for other wine lovers who might wish to join me in participating in the multitude of wine events that always seem to be going on around here. For instance, there's the Monticello Wine Trail festival next weekend... (among others.) So interested Central Virginians speak up!!

I was down at Fort Lee working with the Army for a month....does that count? Smile I did find a nice store in Midlothian called The Wine Cellar that had a nice selection. Picked up some Kistler chard there, as well as Tobin James. What a pleasant surprise to find them both there!

I am in central NC. I stayed at Chestwick at Monticello about a yr and a half ago. Great place for a weekend away and did some good wine tours on the side. If anyone is interested I am pretty sure they would go out of their way to take care of our needs.

Has anyone been to Asheville, NC you can stay at Inn at Biltmore or the Grove Park Inn, both are top notch and have excellent restaurants that again I am sure will take care of any needs.

And my favorite city in the South, so far, is Charleston, SC. I love it, no matter what time of year it is, and I know they allow corkage. I am new here and have so much to learn about wine. I would love to get to know wine and new people while I am at it.

Yes sorry about that, memory about names is horrible but memory about the place is still fresh. It was very nice. Just Ideas though.

May be a screwed up law, but oh how I am envious of Virginia's alcohol policies: direct shipment allowed, purchase of wine/beer in grocery stores, and good wine stores to boot!

Around the 1996-1998 time frame, I'd often go to the Trellis in Williamsburg with bottle in hand and dine in the main room ($25 corkage... by no means cheap). Wonder if this ABC law was around at that time, or if the cat is now out?

Don't know if law was around in 96-98 time period. I suspect it is. I also know many establishments don't follow it.

Trellis is/was a good spot.

Anyone been to, had, Savoy Lee Winery stuff. It seems to be getting good press (or scores) up (No VA) here, against what I thought wasa pretty good juice for East Coast work?

Keswick is an interesting setup - nice patio & bar.
