Since the cost of the 10 first growths would be in the neighborhood of $4200 I also would appreciate feedback on agreeing to A LIMIT of 20 people and allowing for 10 partnerships to purchase the the wine in 10 pairs making it more affordable.
Perhaps some of the best prices are available from private stock or the Chicago Wine Exchange.
Please consider this note as an open invitation to MARVIN SHANKEN to acquire the associated asponsorship rights for any assistance/advice on how to make the acquisition of the first growths feasible for some of our younger members.
Perhaps we could label the event: "THE NEW IMPROVED WINE SPECTATOR WEB SITE BORDEAUX TASTING".

Count me in. I have both '82 and '89 first growths. I will follow this thread with interest. I probably have a friend (dinner guest) that you've met who would also be interested.

Dok,
I repsonded to your e-mail of Friday. Perhaps I ended up in your "junk mail" folder? If you can't find it, I'll resend. I might be able to help with your request.

I have a bottle of '82 Mouton, or Cheval Blanc in lieu of cash participation. This may be a good way to celebrate if a couple of legal issues are resolved before then. Otherwise I may be following Bmans financial planning strategy.

Thomas, I have 89 Latour. But if you can locate the wines and split the cost, I'm defintely interested.

I have had discussion with merchant friends and the wines are definitely available.
I am willing to contribute two bottles: 1989 Latour or Haut Brion 1982 Mouton or Margaux
Dokta has indicated interest.
aav comes forward with the 89 LaTour
I know Steve8 will soon be forced to post.
My thoughts are running to a smaller event--Perhaps with the first 12-14 who post. It seems that the smaller the group the easier it will be to select a date.
Perhaps two flights of 7 bottles each--the five first growths and two very well chosen "New World" blends. 14 total bottles (or a bottle per person).
All tasted blind and all rated by the participants before they are revealed.

I would love to join the group. I am the one that sat next to you at the CAGE II event. Whilst I don't have any of the required First Growths, I could either purchase through your source or come up with one or one of the New World Equivalents.
Would a 1998 Grange count as a well chosen "new world blend" or is that too young or too inappropriate?
Please let me know.
Dale
edit - I have a line on an 89 mouton from a good source, so let me know if I should pull the trigger on that one. D

I have just pulled the trigger on the 89 Mouton, so even if this doesn't work, I will have a great bottle of wine. Please keep us posted on this get together, in whatever format it happens, and I look forward to going back to La Casalinga. I took my wife there for our anniversary and, to noone's surprise, had a wonderful meal and time.
Regards, Dale

Wine Access in San Francisco. I got an email that it was shipped on Thursday and I received it already this morning priority overnight for $16.00. One of the best prices I could find and the bottle looks to be in great shape, with the fill well up into the neck. So, not only am I willing to acquire it, it showed up quickly and I now have to watch it until we can get together.
Thomas, any thoughts on a date yet?
This will be my first real tastings of First Growths (other than the couple of sips of the 82 Margaux that Thomas brought to the CAGE II event), and I am excited about this one.
Napa, I hope that you can make this one as well and that your legal issues get resolved. Remember that both Thomas, myself and bman's friend gman are all attorneys, so if we can help, please let us know.

I'm buying lottery tickets with Bman and Luc. I don't own any firsts from those vintages and with what I've spent this month on wine, I'm not sure I could afford to participate in the purchase of them all. A quick glance on Winesearcher looks like it would cost about $4000 for all 10 of them?

Dale: Thomas is on the case!
BTW, the Margaux was an '81.

Well then that is perfect. I wont' be 'tasting again.' I will bring the 89 Mouton and look forward to seeing some again and meeting others at La Casalinga.
Other than the weekend of November 10th, we are pretty open, as that is the weekend I am supposed to move into our new house, so hopefully that is not the weekend selected by the group.
