Talking it over with Baird, we're going back to Tuscany Cafe for our last offline there. The restaurant is closing at the end of May.

Now if we can only agree on the date or theme Wink

Tuscany Cafe sounds good to me. I still have a strong preference for a weeknight. I'm quite flexible on theme, although I liked the suggestion above of an all-2003 vintage tasting.

If the date ends up being on the 17th, I'd like to join in if there's still room.

I am assuming if it is a 2003 theme, we are talking Europe only?

I think that it should be 2003 anywhere in the world. Old or new world.

Thoughts?

We interrupt this performance of "Waiting for Bordeaux"

Baird & I have made a couple of executive decisions. Here’s what we’ve planned for the next TWC offline. Apologies to anyone who can’t make it…

Date: Friday, May 25
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Place: Tuscany, 45 Baldwin St. – It’s in the Dundas & University area.
Theme: Bring what you like – something nice that everyone will enjoy

Who’s in?

BTW...I'm thinking of bringing an '01 Smith Haut Lafitte, 01 Elderton Command Shiraz or 98 Alion

Maitre d': Are you dining alone, sir?

Duojet: (In my best Don Adams voice) Would you believe that 10 members of the TWC are double-decanting their 82 first growths and will be here in 5 minutes? No? How about 5 members of the TWC are in line at the LCBO picking up their Classics orders and will be here in 10 minutes? No? OK... How about just Baird is coming with a Yellow Tail Reserve in 30 minutes?

Hey Duo, I'll be along as soon as I pick up my Classics order. Is it OK if I bring the Yellow Tail normale? I can make it 2 bottles if you like.

Looks like I can make it. Smile And I'll be damn proud to fill the third chair.

Baird,
As I indicated in the 2nd thread of the post, I am unable to O/L the week of the 21st.
I know that the attendees will have a great time, and I wish Dave all the best in the future.

Looks like we are on.

I will look at the confirmations and post additional details tomorrow.

Too bad that DoktaP, Slan, AAV et al can't make it but this is one of the few remaining dates that David could accomodate us.

OK,

We are on for the 25th.

Date: Friday, May 25
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Place: Tuscany, 45 Baldwin St. – It’s in the Dundas & University area.
Theme: Bring what you like – something nice that everyone will enjoy (if anyone brings Catena Malbec or anything similar, I am cracking out the 1998-2004 veritcal of Malivoire Old Vined Foch!)

Confirmed:

Baird +1
Duojet
Basecadet
On the Wine

Please advise if I missed anyone or spouses, girlfriends, life partners, etc. will be attending. Wink

Lastly, is anyone interested in tasting the wines blind?

I agree if the wines all have something that ties them together. But if we are going to bring a variety of completely disparate wines, then I don't see the point is drinking blind.

Any other takers?

So far....
Baird +1
Duojet + possible guest Scott
Basecadet
On the Wine +1
Futronic (99.9% :-p )

I kinda agree with OTW about it being pointless drinking wines blind if the variety is too great but it can also be fun to try a wine that turns out to be something completely different or much cheaper than you though.

How about European reds as a theme? Or France vs. Italy? Or just Cabernets?

Please advise if anyone has ideas.

See you on the 25th!!!

I was planning on bringing a 1998 Allegrini Amarone. It might be a little too heavy for the season, but I've been wanting to try one for a while.

Thoughts?

Fut,

I had Allegrini's 2001 La Grola on Sunday. I'm not fan of most Veneto-based wines, but I enjoyed it a lot. I imagine their amarone will be a few notches above that.

Sounds good. Done and done.

BTW, speaking of La Grola, I like that wine much better than the Palazzo delle Torre. That said, I thought the 2003 was too jammy for my liking, possibly due to the weather conditions.

Look forward to a night of great wine to celebrating the restaurant closing.
