------------------------------ It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend; one's present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason. Latin saying

I'll certainly start a thread when I'm sure of the dates I'll be up there. I'll probably be both in the NW suburbs and in the city, so either area will likely work. I'm a flexible sort.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm doing some research for a trip there sometime before June. Probably not in time for your offline, though, darnit. Anyway, three friends and I plan on meeting up there for about three days, and since none of us has a clue about the city, I'd appreciate some info from the locals.
We'd be looking for a nice, affordable hotel in town, close to dining and maybe other points of interest? What areas would we be looking for? What areas do we need to avoid? Would weekdays be better than a long weekend? I know the subjects of corkage and BYOB has been brought up in other threads, but I'm lazy and pressed for time on my lunch hour. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Fut- any interest in that Thursday night tasting at Binny's as posted above by Vino Me? If so I'll start a new thread on it. It's not far from downtown, probably a 15-20 minute drive and easily accessible by "el". (that's the elevated train here)
My folks are confirmed for a Friday arrival, so I'm out for the weekend. I hope we can make Thursday work.
Mneeley- do a search. I'm too lazy to respond to your lazyness. There's plenty of information out there at your fingertips, or start a new thread!

Point taken. I gotta stop squandering my lunch hour in the MTH section...

Sure, I'll head out for a tasting on Thursday. LC - in case the event doesn't run late, maybe we can sort out dinner for the Thursday group somewhere. Any ideas, grossie? Shoot me an email - my posting name @rogers.com and we can sort out where to meet, what train I should be taking, etc.
WineO - no themes necessary for Wed/Thurs.
Geez, I better make it to Binny's and Sam's early in my trip. There's no way I'll be able to bring enough wine for all the offlines between Philly and Chicago with me on the plane!

Can anyone kindly give me a physical address to mail a bottle to for the weekend? My friend is shipping it from CA but I'm hoping to save the trouble of it going from ca to ny to chicago and have it land directly in chicago.
Thanks James, it should be done tomorrow or Tues, UPS by next day air. I'll confirm when it's done. It's coming from Barclays Global. so much easier done through the office..
the only way to get a job done is to do it yourself. Sorry for the delay James, I've been notified that the shipment hasn't even been mailed yet but will "attempt" to by Friday. It's already boxed to begin with and I sent the link for the label to be printed. GRRRRR.

Is this the final list for what's going on in the week? I'd like to get this straightened out so I can figure out how many bottles I'm going to have to lug on the plane.
To those coming for dinner on Wednesday and Thursday, any ideas of where to eat? Obviously someplace that allows BYO would be prefered.
If people can post the wine(s) they'll be bringing that would be great too.
Futronic, I plan on bringing a '93 Banfi BdM Poggio all'Oro Riserva for sure, and another bottle or two that I have not yet decided on.
