I attended an Australian Wine Tour promoted by the Wine Tourism institute of Australia. Basically, it is a wine tasting showcasing over 200 different Aussie wines with a notable presence by the large wineries but includes some small wineries.

The event I attended was in Montreal last Thursday and I got to try over 15 different wines but in 2.5 hours, there were many wines I didn't try.(ie like the yellow tails Big Grin I spoke to the winery managers for Grant Burge, Parri estate wines, and Rymill.

If you are an Australian wine fan, this is a must event for you. Although a large portion of the wines are available at the LCBO or SAQ, a good number lot are only available from private imports and I will ordering some Langmeil and Kaesler wines privately that I never see here through our wine monopolies.

These are notable wines and discoveries made that night.

Rymill Shiraz, MC2, and Cabernet wines: WOW, real complexity at the $20.00 range. All their wines I tasted were exceptional(ie 90points and above.)

The highlights were the Meschach 1999 Grant Burge(94 points), 2002 BVE Black Pepper E & E(96 points), the Parker Cooonawara Terra rosa first growth 2001(WOW 95 points), 2003 Pirramimma petit verdot(93 points), Wolf Blass Black Label (2002?) 93 points, and HAAN shiraz (forget the vintage) 92 points, Eileen Hardy Shiraz 2002 (92 points). Sorry, no time for formal notes.

There are some links to about the wineries participating at the www.vintageassessments.com site or at www.wineaustralia.com.

I know I sound like a spammer Frown but honestly, it is an event that should not be missing for Aussie wine fans. I believe it will be hitting other north american cities but I'm not sure.

Entrance fee varies around 50.00 and includes finger foods.

I'm sorry I missed it. Is the Langmeil you mention the reasonably priced one that WS just rated 94?

Yup. 23.90 perbottle. Vinaigre and I are splitting a case but I could put you in for some bottles. This is already available in the importers warehouse so it would take long to get. Interested? send me an email.

Would you consider letting someone else share some of these with you? Or ordering another case? I won't be able to read it until tonight at the earliest, but feel free to shoot an email to my private address if you prefer, I'd love to get some of these for myself.
