Send me an email for a Friday night event at johnglas1@msn.com.
Casual but actually an Aussie themed event.
Email sent. An Aussie themed event? Count me in!

After a lengthy and sometimes arduous work-related trip to Wisconsin, then Minnesota, I had the pleasure of finishing off this trip with a most enjoyable evening with mplswineguy and friends at the Edina Country Club. Australian wines were the theme for this offline. Great wine & food, coupled with good company & conversation made for an excellent time for all.
Thanks to mplswineguy for your time, energy, and effort in making this happen! Thanks also to you, wineglas, Matt, Gary, and Judith for providing some great wines and for the great conversation.
Others took more formal TN's so my notes are minimal here...
Started with a 2007 Leasingham Magnus Riesling - Just delicious and a superb QPR to boot. DUCKFANINMT Score: 88-89
2004 Schild Estate Shiraz - 92 points initially. With time evolved the wine evolved dramatically and positively. QPR of the evening. DUCKFANINMT Score: 93+
2004 DeLisio Krystina - Spectacularly memorable bouquet of multiple floral scents that, with time, included some licorice as well. The kind of wine you want to smell over and over again. A couple of us commented that it had a most pleasant "smell of the sky after it rains" kind of fragrance to it. Smooth and silky on the palate with an impeccably balanced blend of raspberry, pepper, and a hint of spice. Medium to long finish. May even get better with a bit more time but hard to believe as it's drinking superbly right now. My WOTN and DUCKFANINMT Score: 95
2003 Greenock Creek Alices - My #2 of the night... can this winery make a less-than-stellar Shiraz? I think not! Initially brooding, but constantly evolving bouquet with lots of dark fruit, wet concrete, mineral, and a hint of caramel. Rich, palate-coating dark fruit, earth, spice, and black pepper on the super long finish. A powerhouse. So close to being over-the-top but halts right at the precipice. Still, not quite the balance and elegance of the DeLisio, so I scored it just slightly below that wine. DUCKFANINMT Score: 94+
2005 Kaesler The Bogan - Bright, fresh, ripe dark fruit on nose and palate. Quite delicious but on the young side, though with lots of potential for greatness. Revisit in 2+ years. DUCKFANINMT Score: 91
2005 Mitolo GAM - Somewhat locked down at the moment but with the same potential for excellence as the Kaesler. Will be interested in seeing how this evolves in 2-3 years. DUCKFANINMT Score: 90
2003 Tim Smith Shiraz - My #3 of the night. Predominantly mineral and crushed rock on the nose, with hints of tar as well. Smooth on the palate with blackberry, mineral, spice, and some pepper on the medium-to-long finish. Excellent now, with additional air time this would improve even more. DUCKFANINMT Score: 93

I need to check this section more often as I'm interested in doing some tastings. I've not done them in the past and am newer to wine - but would love to start somewhere. Keep me in mind for future events. Thanks!

Miles of Lief, let me know when you would like to do an offline. I'd really like to have MJAlbers join in too. You can even pick the theme for the night as far as wine goes that is up your alley. We can always have it at my club.

Miles, you will have a great time with these fellas ... very down-to-earth unassuming class acts. I'm not sure if Ash and I will be in town for X-Mas this year, but we should make a point to put together an OL next time we are. With mpls' offer of aged Pegau you better believe I will be doing some heavy lobbying to get our butts there!

I'm pretty flexible as long as I have an advanced notice of the date. How about mid range Cali Cabs $40-$60?

I'm definately ready for an offline. Would love to have Tpety and Miles of Lief join in. Cali Cabs always works for me. Give me a date and I'll make a reservation at the club. That being said I will be so bummed if Brashley can't make it for the 09 Cdp dinner. I'm not popping my last 1995 Pegau untill he makes it back to town.
