Anyone have any suggestions on how to find a group of like-minded individuals in my area? I'n looking for some "mentors" who can help me increase my knowledge.

I'm in the northern NJ area.

thanks!

1. Attend tastings at local wine shops and talk to people who show up.

2. All some of the finer restaurants around and ask them when and if they have wine dinners. Then go to a wine dinner and talk to the others who show up.

If neither of those work, just hang out in the wine section of your favorite local wine shop and talk to people who come in looking for wine. You can make friends that way. Might also ask the wine shop proprietor about clubs and wine dinners and such.

Make your own! See if you can round up some local folk to do offlines. Heck, there are probably people posting here who'd love to join you. We started this here on the boards with a MD/DC area group a while back, and it's blossomed into a really fun monthly event. I've learned a ton, and have met some really excellent people.

And check out a couple of the other popular boards. There are groups that use them too.

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Cali, We do a great group in NYC. You should come. There are beginners, seasoned winelovers, and every type in between. A great group of fun loving folf. Do you have family in NY? It would make it easy for a commute.

I understand Magmun still has a few openings. You can find a mentor to help you expand your knowlege and tasting.

A few of us gay guys in the wine biz have started a monthly winetasting/potluck event in the Healdsburg/Northern Sonoma County area. Our group is called MAGNUM, is open to newcomers and welcomes participation by men who appreciate wine and the camaraderie of other predominantly gay men. If you are interested in participating, please let me know and I will send you the Evite.
