Oh I'm betting Fonte de Medici is more than large enough to accommodate this crowd.

Eric-

The dates presently planned are May 14 - 17, 2009. There are ongoing investigations and plans ongoing offline and you'll begin hearing much more as we get into November.

The present 'pre-game' is still planned for Spain, though most are planning specifically for Italy. There's a bit discussion considering having the 'off-line' being in Montalcino itself and some good information to come. No intent for ambiguousness, but until a few details are worked on, it's just a little premature to lay this out.

Sounds like we are going to miss the group. I am looking to be in Spain the end of April through the first week of May. With a little work, I might be able to delay a bit.

Eric,
Patti and I are going to book our flights (to Italy) soon, regardless.
Whether there is or isn't an official WS Offline in Tuscany May 16-17/09 we'll be in the region/country at least a week (or more) on either side of the proposed date.

Canadian weather?
Nine months of hockey and three months of bad ice.

Let's get this moving forward before the end of the year.

We are in for Spain, still thinking about Italy.

We might be heading to Greece in the Fall of next year, and I need to decide before we decide on Italy.

Eek That's just a bit shocking.
Spain, while great, is the PRE GAME. Cool

We're going to bow out of this one.

We'll be going on a 2-week Baltic cruise in August with a week in Stockholm beforehand; unless the Canadian dollar has a miraculous resurrection, it's going to cost us about a third more than expected, and may get worse. It's something we've wanted to do for a while (it was actually Grossie who told us about it and got us interested) and don't really want to put this one off. I don't think we can do 2 Europe trips next year.

I'm still in for Italy- I'll be there for almost the whole month of May traveling and doing wine stuff Smile

Spain isn't looking likely, Frown though I may spend a month in France in March if anyone is around! Smile

PlanoWino and the Mrs. are not going to be able to make. Can't find anyone masochistic enough to watch our 16 year old daughter while we are gone.

I tried to implement wine+art's recommendation to fly solo and let the Mrs. stay home with the kid. By the time I got out of the hospital,I had completely written off that option.

UPDATE!!

Thanks to the footwork and efforts made by some of our fellow forumites (much thanks to Longboarder and Jochems), the following has been established for this upcoming shindig:

Time: Saturday, May 16, 2009
Place: Hotel Il Giglio, Montacino, Italy

It is advisable to make hotel reservations well in advance. Some suggested hotels in town are:

Il Giglio

Dei Capitani

Vechia Olivera

Because of the size of group interest, it is logistically impossible to arrange for flights and Hotel reservations for everyone. Thus, this is the responsibility of each person/couple who intend on attending. In a couple of months or so, we request those who've made plans and reservations to post such, so we can better align the dinner reservation requirements with the fine people at Il Giglio.

Hope to see you all there! Smile

KSC02,

I was looking into this and Spain this weekend. Can you tell me where the market will be in May 2009, and how many more years it will take me to recover what I have lost since October of 2007?

Thanks in advance.

While (via informal offline discussions) it seems the 'IN' list is likely halved at this point (due to many various circumstances) there are several still planning to attend.
A lot can happen in this crazy world between now and then.

Hopefully things stabilize a bit for everyone.
