The date for this shindig is set:

May 14 - 17, 2009 Cool

This will allow people to start to plan. Discussions and investigations are ongoing regarding location. Whether this be held in Montalcino directly or closer to Siena. There's a lot of interesting things being bantered about. With the number of people interested/planning to attend this, I hope no one's put out by an informal grouping structuring this. There's really no better way to do it. 30 people will never all agree... so hopefully this works well for all, if not the majority.

So..there you have it. The date is struck in stone. One step further.

Perfect date! I finish my PhD in the first week of May next year and May 10 is my girlfriends birthday! We are confirming that we're confirmed Smile

This is going to be outstanding. I'm spending 10 days in Italy (and another 10 in Germany/Austria) this November as well Smile

Good to see you'll make it!
There are a lot of ideas and discussions happening off line.
Suffice to say, this is prepping to be one absolutely incredible event. Smile

If we need another hotel option - I read in Food & Wine that the owners of Baldovino in Florence have bought and opened a hotel/restaurant in Grieve - MLV has the article and name - but as I enjoy their place in Florence - it may be a good alternative if needed.

Besides...somebody's got to hold Seaquam's hand...you know how shy he is... Wink

I just saw this and sounded interesting until I saw Spain was the pre-party!! Spain makes better wine so it should be the main event. Until it is...I'm pulling a Board-O and boycotting Big Grin

Not that anyone will miss me Wink

well, we have been talking about this and it seems likely that you can move us to the IN category. Most likely just for Italy, not Spain.

We have to drink Spanish and Italian wine on this trip?
Does the Champagne sub committee know about this?

Now if there was a Champagne offline in Champagne, I'd be there!

sprnplr, we need to get wiml ( official record keeper) to post the Champagnes enjoyed the last two years at our fair event.

You can then judge if this would be worthy. Wink

I think he knows the Champagne tasted the past two events. He's the one that tracked down some 1988 Pol Roger Churchill in 750ml for me because he saw my tasting note in CT. Cool

Why yes he does know that.

My bottle is one of my backups for my graduation in a few weeks, and hoping that I don't have to have it then, I'll probably pop it on the cruise next month
