Due to a series of comments that have been recently made in various posts, regarding just how incredible it would be to hold a tasting in Italy, the idea was born to hold the 5th Annual Italian Offline physically in Tuscany with a 'Pre-Game' in Spain (theme of Priorat).

To avoid running the 4th Annual Italian Offline thread into some severe drifting (God knows it can't afford any more than it already does) it was decided to indeed create a seperate thread as, with all the logistics that this will entail, surely it needs a thread of its' own.

Let the planning continue:

So far,
PH +1
KSC02 +1
Skoshy
w+a +1
Een
DoktaP +1
Longboarder
VT2IT +1
WIML
Purple
Sarbuze +1
Jochems +1

Likely:
Asterixis +1
Jcocktosten
MLV
Futronic
bobbyc +1
indybob +1

I'd like to request that we put Asterixis and his significant other on the "likely" list.

If this actually flies, it will be an amazing event!

The wife and I plan on going to Italy for our 20th and our oldest daughter's high school graduation next year. If the dates work out count us in.

It truly will be one for the books DoktaP, and it'd be fantastic to have Asterixis and his sig. along. What an event!!

VT2IT:
The date is yet to be made. Likely it would be May(ish)? I would think. Hopefully, you can come. You're on the list.

That will fill up the "Nebbiolo Villa" that sits between the Tignanello and Solaia vineyards.

We could do the off-line over the hill at the Osteria di Passignano. Since everyone won't fit into the Nebbiolo villa we could take over Aglianico, Malvasia and Sangiovese. I don't mind going up the hill.

Should we bring wine with us, or do you think we can find anything drinkable there? Big Grin

Well, I have been lurking on these boards for awhile and living vicariously through your offline events. This one seems very doable for us, only a short flight for us from London. So could I possibly get in on this with my wife.

This is over a year away, so it's impossible for me to commit to one way or another.

I've been waiting for you guys to finally get serious about this. I've waited so long I finally gave up and scheduled my trip to Italy this year, not next.

If there's anybody actually going when it gets to the nut cutting time I'll commit then.

What the hell, put me on the "possible" list +1. We didn't make it to Italy last year, as planned, won't make it this year, so maybe 2009 is in the cards.

I'll be back in Italy in late October/early Nov of this year, if anyone is around then...

That being said, put me down for Sarbuze + 1 for the 2009 trip!

I'll be in Italy this summer for 2 weeks with my wife and Asterixis and his spouse.

If you'd like, we can scout out some possible villas/venues. I'll just need some idea of numbers by July '08.

Could this really be happening? Fut, aren't you due to go back in '09?

We'll be there from 10/16 to 10/29 this year.

I love that we are on the "likely" list. Again, it seems a bit early to be able to commit, but likely seems accurate....

After all the postings, thus far, here's how it stands Wink:

So far,
PH +1
KSC02 +1
Skoshy
w+a +1
Een
DoktaP +1
Longboarder
VT2IT +1
WIML
Purple
Sarbuze +1
bobbyc +1

Likely:
Asterixis +1
Jcocktosten
MLV
Jochems
Futronic
indybob +1

Presently at 19 'IN'
and 8 'Likely'

Are we going to place a cut-off number on this?
Also, SOME may want to just meet up in Montalcino and not participate in the 'Pre-game in Spain', OR some may want to be in Spain and pass on Italy.

Thoughts?

Knowing your 'issues' with 'commitment', that's why you were listed in the 'Likely' column. Roll Eyes Big Grin

What I'M trying to figure out is just how you could live with yourself, missing this one. Eek

As we are 'actually going'

You and Purple have been placed into the 'actually committing' list Smile

In the likely event that we join in, we will most likely go see our friends in Florence and then meet, skipping the whole Spain thing (were there this past year though!). Unless of course our friend is about to give birth again and not wanting company. Then we can come to spain too.

We might not make the Spain get-together...but we'll know more once we set a date for the trip.

This is going to be amazing.

Thanks for including us in the number. I think we would be only looking at the Italy part of the trip. It sounds like it will be an awesome event.

It will be interesting to see how this list changes when it comes time to book the airfare and villa/bodega. Razz

Odds alone will ensure there will be changes, Mr. Pessimism. Razz

However, I think it's evident that there is indeed a 'core' group involved here, that you can count on going barring something absolutely cataclysmic. Wink

I have not been following the off-line section since I haven't seen any event near my place.....

Now, I'm honoured that I've been put on the 'likely' list for this one. You sure count me in for the Italian leg of this trip. Likely as jochems+1.

I'll be in Montalcino somewhere in May of this year, and in the Maremma region in mid July. I would be pleased to assist in the organisation of this event.
