You can choose your wine now, and I can arrange the menu accordingly, or you can wait until the menu is posted (at least for the 3rd and 5th offlines since I will be hosting these, Bman is hosting the 4th).

Note the Toronto based forumite that is going to be at all of them
That's quite a schedule of off-lines that are only an hour and a half from me. Any room for a couple of Montrealers? Let me know and I can check with Julie on our schedule for those weekends.
I'm going to bring 1 or 2 older vintage ports, and I could also bring '95 or '96 Brunellos to do a horizontal. I'll follow the thread and decide later. TWC are now the travelling road/wine show. That fut will do almost anything for a free meal and a couple glasses of wine! Good going fut. You're our national and international correspondant. I wish I had your energy (and palate). I'm looking forward to all the upcoming events. Soon we'll need a secretary to help co-ordinate and arrange all of our events. I'm planning something "special" in January 2005 for our 1 year anniversary as the "Cru". Keep a Monday or Tuesday evening open the 3rd or 4th week of January. The venue will be confirmed and probably a theme.

Huh? Who? I have no idea what you're talking about.
Dok - I think the Otis' cellar diminishment party might be around the same part of January, so we'll have to keep that in mind, if anyone's up for the road trip.
I was thinking about DRABing a 1998 or 2000 Beaucastel or maybe even a 2000 Bordeaux. Other than that, possibly a Cali Cab, an Aussie Shiraz and a Riesling.
Let me know if you have preference as to which varietal I bring to Ott3 and Ott5.
I'm thinking of a 2002 Dead Arm for carried to try. A couple older Vintage Ports ('63,'82). And maybe a '96 Brunello to have side by side with whatever futronic is planning. There's a good chance this will change as we get closer. Any requests?
I suggested the Italian them because I have yet to learn to love them (Veneto excepted), and know that futronic is lusting for at least one of my Italians. If he recalls my modest little collection of Italians, and can pick one that it at its best, and typifies what he loves about Italians (and what I have yet to appreciate!), I will gladly open it.
The menu chez nous will likely revolve around beef, with an outside shot at lamb. Or both! If anyone is thinking of a white, we can do something with shrimp or salmon. Or both! But since we will be few, perhaps best we stick to the reds.
If we are only to be five, I may invite a non-WS Forums couple to join us. He's more into bordeaux than anything, and was my boss in a previous posting, but is otherwise a good egg. Don't know if he has any decent Italians.
Dok - natch, you have gotten my attention with your offer to bring ports, especially old ones. But will they not be sediment-y, after your long trip? I can decant a port or two of my own if you'd like, and let you save yours for something in T.O. My older vintages (63 Delaforce, 70 Rebello Valente) are not stars, but would be interesting. Of course, if you insist.....
I may have to get you to re-send me the list of the Italians you have in your collection, but you did have several that were of interest. I'll be sure to bring a few tasty treats on each of the trips up!
I'm really looking forward to visiting Ottawa, as it's been many years since I've been in the city.
As soon as I sort out the wines for each visit, I'll post them. Thanks for a heads up on the menus!
Here's a list of my Italians that seem to be at their best (please let me know if not), based on WS or other TNs:
1997 Fattoria di Manzano Podere il Bosca syrah
1997 Cepparello
1997 Allegrini amarone
1997 Tommasi amarone
1997 Michele Chiarlo Asili barbaresco
1995 Sordo Barolo
1998 Poggio Scalete il Carbonaione
1998 Arnaldo-Caprai Montefalco riserva
I have two bottles of the barbaresco, and three of the Allegrini, so if you couldn't choose between anther bottle and one of those, I'd rather go for the latter. Unless you think something is fading soon, like the barolo for example.
You also have a bottle of 1997 Oberto barolo waiting for you here, a gift from you-know-who!
So let me know which of the above we're going to crack!
In addition to one of the above Italians, and probably another lesser Italian, I'd like to open a port, if you wouldn't mind....
Menu (preliminary) 1996 Chateau Meyney Bordeaux (1/2btl) NV Chambers Rutherglen Muscat 1998 Chateau Beaucastel CDP(1/2btl) 2000 Chateau Beaucastel CDP(1/2btl) 98 Chateau Lagrange or La Tour Haut Brion 99 Reichsgraf Von Kesselstat Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett
Paprika Dill Shrimp on cucumber, Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Bordelaise Sauce Grilled Lamb Chops with Demiglace/Tomato Concassé/Basil/Roasted Garlic Sauce.
4th Ottawa offline will Oct. 2nd (Bman will be hosting)---Theme is Italian
-carriedca (2) -Bman (2) -Futronic(1)
Bman will post what's on the menu I will bring Almond Biscotti 95 Isole e Olena Vin Santo 96 Barolo, either Parusso or Azelia
For the October offlines, I'll be bringing the following:
1998 Cloudy Bay Pelorus 1996 Livio Sasseti Brunello di Montalcino Pertimali 1979 Villa di Vetrice Vin Santo 375mL (no idea if this is still good, but sounds like a good time to open it)
and one of:
1998 Poderi Colla Barolo Bussia Dardi La Rose 1998 Borgogno Barolo 1998 Masi Serego Aligheri Amarone, since I know how much bman loves Amarone.
Sorry Steve, but I've got to ration my pitifully modest collection of trophies. But if you come to a future Ottawa offline.....
Futronic - your call which of them will die. All I ask is that you choose one that is at the top of its game, both in maturity and food match, as it's probably the last of any of them that I'll buy (unless your Italian evangelistic zeal converts me! ). What would you suggest as a food match, beef lamb or something else? Don't be shy!
Lamb and the Syrah or Cepparello would be a great pairing. I like my Barolo with roasted meats. Basically, if you open it, it will go well. I'm evading the question, I know, but seriously, all of those wines will be delicious, and should be drinking well right now.
