SUNDAY SEMINAR SERIES & 4TH ANNUAL GRAND FESTIVAL PACKAGE
Sunday, June 29, 2008 11am-5pm
Fort Mason, San Francisco - Buchanan Street and Marina Boulevard
Cost: $ 90

If you love pinot, you know that it challenges you in every way, especially intellectually. Our Sunday Seminar Series focuses on education, through discussion and tasting, of the grape you will always love, but will never fully master. Come have fun trying!

Each Sunday Seminar Series has three parts (appellation, vineyard and misto), and each part will be moderated by someone well-versed in the particular topic: A vineyard owner for the Vineyard Tasting, an appellation wine association president for the Appellation Tasting, an expert on pinot clones in California for the Clonal Study, etc. Each tasting will work like this: The tasting will begin, of course, with the pouring of 4 wines within the theme. Attendees will listen to a 10-15 minute lecture while tasting, followed by a 10-15 minute question and answer session. These are fascinating, enlightening studies that will enrich your future pinot experiences.

ISA RESTAURANT WINEMAKERS TABLE HOP DINNER
Thursday, June 26, 2008 6-10pm
Isa Restaurant - 3324 Steiner St., San Francisco
Cost: $ 150

Isa is a fabulous French small plate restaurant. Executive Chef Luke Sung, who is talented beyond his years, creates the types of satisfying combinations one can eat every day. His food is deeply flavored, elegant, yet straightforward. Sung crafts French style, classically prepared small dishes, many featuring flavors of Provence, which works very well with Californian ingredients. His credentials are surprisingly lengthy and impressive for such a young man, and include work with Chef Roland Passot at La Folie, Chef Julian Serrano at Masa's (now at Picasso Restaurant in Las Vegas), and Chef Daniel Boulud at Restaurant Daniel in New York. We love the food and ambiance at Isa, and cannot think of a better venue for one of our Pinot Days Winemakers Dinners.

PINOT DAYS 2008 FOCUS TASTINGS

This year we are offering three Focus Tastings, each with a regional focus. Each of these tastings will feature 16 of the best producers’ efforts within the theme. We will drink the wines blind and reveal them after each flight. While you are tasting the wines, the winemakers will field questions, discuss their own wines and the uniqueness of the region they are representing, and share their colorful stories about making some of the most exciting pinots available. All of this will happen while you are sitting and tasting some of the finest pinots on the market.

Two very distinct appellations, with very different flavor profiles. This will be an unparalleled evening of contrast and comparison. Both regions boast producers who have been making wine before and through California pinot's revitalization, as well as many new and young Turks of the cellar and vineyard. Prepare for an amazing study in contrast: Old to new, coastal to valley, mountain side to flat lands, and see how each manifests in your glass. Space is limited.

BEST OF RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY AND SANTA MARIA VALLEY
Saturday, June 28, 2008 7-9pm
Golden Gate Room, Fort Mason - Buchanan St. and Marina Blvd., San Francisco
Cost: $ 80

Why put these two regions together in a tasting? Both have some of the oldest vineyards in California, and both regions tend to plant similar clones; thus they offer similar profiles, in terms of flavor and style. It will be interesting and revealing to contrast Northern California pinot with Southern California pinot, to experience their many commonalities and to essentially isolate the impact of each environment on its wines. We are excited to see what unfolds. Space is limited.
