The hardest part about being a litigation lawyer, so far as I can tell after 28 years, is getting everyone together at the trial at the same place at the same time. Witnesses, lawyers, clients.
So, it is alot like planning a party.

I think cometspider is a solo, irwin. Otherwise looks good. I might be bringing someone, but still working on details.
Put me down for a:
1995 Ricardo Fenocchio Barolo Pianpolvere Soprano
to go with the Osso Bucco. If anyone has another Barolo, that would be cool. It's that time of year! Most of mine are still babies, but this 1995 should be good with a little air.
Festiva, I'd love to try the 1994. Perhaps with the pasta?
Should we abandon an "all Italian wine" theme in order to match better with the fish dishes? I am tremendously weak on Italian whites. Prosecco to start? Anyone have a bottle of Vin Santo for dessert? Do I ask too many questions?
irwin, great job putting this together. Did you actually "cut and paste" that menu??

OK, Comet Spider is a solo at the moment. But, looks like I am convincing Cheryl to come, so I'll be a twosome.
Glad to hear we'll see the illustrious Mrs. Irwin! My wife will be thrilled to not be completely outnumbered!
Instead of simply pairing wine with each dish, do you think it might be worthwile just to do a couple flights of wine and damned be how they pair with the foods? PH, how did you guys manage the Brunello tasting and dinner this past weekend?

For those dishes with which we feel an Italian will pair nicely - let's do it. For the dishes where our Italian "inventories" are a bit lacking, lets go international. By doing this we can still hold true to our Italian "theme" with the heartier courses while ensuring the more delicate dishes, (jumbo lump crab and risotto cake), will be complimented. Just a thought!

Check out PH going "Old Skool" on us!!! Sound like a fun wine to try. Thanks for offering up this gem to the cause!
It is definitely a traditional styed wine. I'm hoping it'll match nicely with the braised meat. We'll know on Sunday!
Great news about Mrs. irwin. We'll have two of our "original MD offliners" back for offline #4. And, no offense irwin & Festiva, but they're a lot easier on the eyes than you mutts!
We did 3 flights of Brunello in Philly, but the menu there allowed us to select courses that were more or less Brunello friendly. Although it's always fun to try to match wines to courses, I agree with Festiva and Gf that it might make sense to be flexible.
As always, anyone reading this thread who has a suggestion on wines/paring etc. should pipe up!

Although crab dishes normally call for a chablis, etc., the combination with roasted tomato and the balsamic drizzle got me to thinkin' Reisling... That being said, I'll bring an '02 Chateau St. Michelle "Eroica" for grins and giggles.
So as not to wander far from our Italian theme, I'll also bring a '98 La Fornace Brunello di Montalcino. It is a much lighter Brunello and could be a proud partner with PH's '95 Ricardo Fenocchio Barolo Pianpolvere Soprano. (If only I could hope!)
Irwin, you mentioned stems are covered - your thoughts on decanters?

GF: Glad you mentioned decanters. I would think that we should bring them. The Barolo will obviously need decanting/breathing as will the La Grola. I will double check with Linwood about decanters and post.
PH and you are responsible for the digital cameras.

Festiva, I found another 2002 Carlisle Zin in my basement. PM me if you are interested, and I'll bring it to the off-line.
Comet: I just located some more Delesvaux and would love to still do a trade for the Carlisle. I'll bring the bottle (as well as all of the other wine I'm holding - Le Cadeau & GF's Delesvaux.). Thanks!

I have a mystery wine for the offline. You guys will NEVER figure out what it is. NEVER. EVER. I suspect you might figure out what kind of grape variety it is, maybe.

Hold it a minute. First, it is not a Burgundy wine. (Last hint) But, I didn't expect you to guess until you taste it on the 29th. In other words, we will pour it out of the bottle into glasses. You can sniff it, swirl it, taste it, spit it out, whatever. Then you can guess.

Make sure to bag it, and remove the capsule if it'll give the wine away. dbw4 did this at the first Brunello tasting with a bottle, and most everyone was WAY off on their guesses. I love blind tasting, as it is truly humbling!! I seem to remember saying, "No way this is a #)$*ing Merlot!" I think it turned out to be a Merlot....
Which leads me to this thought. How about our next offline, we taste double blind? Should be a hoot!!

Linwoods has 4 decanters. I'll be bringing a bottle of Villa Lanata Moscato d'Asti for dessert, as well as the La Grola Allegrini and the mystery bottle, cloaked appropriately.
After consultations, we're going to stick with the 7:00 start. Festiva and Ms. F will get there about 7:30 and we won't eat without them.
