I was thinking of planning a Long Island wine event possibly on Thursday September 14th. I can either host a small event at my house (might need some additional wine glasses though) or arrange something in a near by restaurant. I was thinking of making it a cab sav only event with a range of 40-70 dollars and vintages from 96-02. Figured it is easy to set up food if wine is consistent. If fewer than 20 people would attend I can easily host at my house, over 20 would probably do better at restaurant. This is just a feeler to see how many would be interested.

What dates in September are you looking at?

If it goes above your 20 mark let me know, I have a great place for you.

I am in, so please include me on your list.

What T-Bird said Smile

Dave, if it's LI and a Thursday - I'm probably good. 20 people is not gonna happen unless you put an ad in the newspaper or post on Parkers board Razz 10 or less is always best anyway.

I like the range, but some here know I don't like one varietal offline wine themes (gets palate tiresome to me and you lose a little anticipation after a while), but I'll go with the flow if this comes off. Cool

If it's a small gathering though - all Cab sounds fine. I just don't like drinking 8 bottles of the same grape.

Dave,
I don't know if you really want 20 strangers hanging around your house. Hunter does it all the time, but not my bag anyway.
Pick a rest., a date and gage the interest. I second Hunter, one grape is boring to the palate.

Hi Dave

I love the idea of something on LI, since I work in Mel Vile. Can't make Sept. 14, though, cuz it's my wife's BD. I've been thinking that Frederick's, just off Route 110 and Northern State would be a great location (I'd have to check their BYOB policy). Let's see how this shakes down datewise.

Dave:

I was just offered and accepted position as Director of Wine and Marketing at a great steakhouse/cigar lounge/wine bar on Long Island. I start the week of Sept 18 and I would love to see if we could accomodate this wine party at our place. It is located in the Plainview/Farmingdale area, about 3 blocks South of the LIE of of exit 48.

Either PM me or reply here and we can discuss it further.

Thanks

I go to M&D often, good steaks, although they have wine thats not on the wine list which is a bit annoying. Congrats and best of luck.
As for hosting wine tasting there sounds like a good idea, would need to know policy for b.y.o.b, etc. When you start let us know what you find out, I am sure they would be happy to hear their new hire brings 20+ for a night out.

That's great! I've known Chris Palmer for more than a decade and I'll be at the Race Palace on Thursday for an event catered by M&D. Unfortunately, this event has lots of fried finger foods and Woodbridge type wines. Never really dined in the restaurant, at least not since its last incarnation and, afraid to say, I was not blown away. I hope they do as good a job with steak as Blackstone's.

Especially if The Wine Wizard comes. He's by far the best tipper on the boards Smile

Unlike Grunhauser, who throws nickels around like they're manhole covers.
Cool

Chris is a great guy; I've known him for awhile, not as long as you though Smile

My plan is to revamp the wine list as well as the wines by the glass list; of course I have other ideas too Wink

As for the food - I've been eating there for a few years and enjoy the steaks and all of dishes very much. As for Blackstone, never ate there but have gone in to check out the wines. I thought the selection was fair but felt that the wines by the glass list was not well done at all.

Anyway, please stop in and introduce yoursel fone of these days or nights and we can chat.

Thanks for the reply.

Wizard

I am open to offlines anytime. I start the new gig the week of Sept 18.

I am looking to revamp the wine list as well as the wines by the glass menu. The list is not bad and for an offline I think everyone would have a great time, especially if you like cigars! Wink

Hope to see you down there Smile

You are more than welcome to BYOB - the corkage fee is $20

Hope this helps

Muzikman,

I will be visiting your place soon. I'd love to try a Steakhouse I've never been to. $20 cork for a steak place is fine with me as well.
