Wondered if anyone in Dallas would be interested in an off-line May 20th (Thursday) - any recommended restaurant would be fine as long as corkage isn't too much and I don't have to drive too far (my hotel is north of DFW in Irving). I know it's last minute but just got my travel schedule together. LMK. Thanks.

Sapril - I think THE291 expressed an interest in attending as well. I have no restaurant plans yet (don't know Dallas very well) - was going to lean heavily on the locals and whoever else was attending's recommendations.

Michael,

Here are some that might work for me (I'm not great at choosing themes):

1) New World Syrah
2) Favorite Cabs
3) Pinot Noir
4) Pacific Northwest Wines
5) Cali Cabs
6) Favorite Merlots

What do you think?

picky, picky, picky Big Grin

I just talked to Joe. (wineismylife)

Your list look great. Lets get a feel of who is in on short notice, then select a theme.

If we have a small group, BRING OUT THE BIG BOYS!

We will pick a place near the airport.

Joe will post details soon.

I will e-mail you my cell number to keep with you.

Michael

mattach, when you get a chance send me and email at joe(dot)dulworth(at)airmail(dot)net. I'll add you to my extensive wino email list. Big Grin

I'll send an email out to the Dallas forum members tonight. Right now the plan is to have a BYOB dinner at Red Sage Euro American Bistro in Southlake. Corkage is FREE! Big Grin I'll shoot for a 6:30PM start time and let everybody know the details tomorrow evening.

mattach, Red Sage should be approximately 10 minutes from your hotel. It is also North of the airport, on the west side of the airport opposite of Irving/Las Colinas.

THE 291 and wineismylife asked me to recommend a theme for Thursday night's tasting...well, have thought about it and I'm not very good at recommending themes, but here is what I think. How about something you think the others would really enjoy that may not be easy for them to find, with a focus towards rich cabs or syrahs. My wine will be the Leonetti 2001 Walla Walla Cab - it's a great cab and not easy to find and thought everyone would enjoy it - it's also my last bottle - what better was to enjoy it. Smile

Right now I'm leaning towards a 93 Beringer Private Reserve. If PURPLE shows I'll grab something else to go with that; maybe a 2001 Drinkward Peschon?

Right now we have:

mattach
THE291
Sapril
wineismylife

He wasn't the only one that liked the 98 at that offline. I liked it enough to sign up for the mailing list. Maybe in 6 years or so...

WIML,

Sounds like the wines of the night will require proper stemware indeed. I do not want anything to limit what each wine has to offer.

I will bring extra,

Michael

P.S. You have "good "wine" recall Big Grin

Unfortunately I have bad wine recall as well. Frown

I'd definitely bring all of the glassware you can carry. They do not have good glassware there. Since we'll be drinking bigger wines I'll bring 4 Spiegelau Bordeaux glasses. That way mattach can have at least one.

WIML,

Not really sure we gave that wine a fair shot.

To say our palates were tired might be an understatement Confused

Looking over the "theme" seems to give me a liitle wiggle room. Wink The "bring something others will enjoy, but not easy to find" allows me to bring a First or Second Growth Bordeaux IMHO. It is cab, but not New World as requested. I am thinking a Bordeaux from the 80's...

Not to overlook the "theme", I will also bring a New World Syrah or Cab.

Looking forward to meeting mattach!

i hope someone tasted the seared tuna and the salmon as i thought it was wonderful last time!

in fact i think i split an extra tuna with Escape it was so good.

i would have been bringing the 2001 midnight oil syrah from Sine Qua Non but i couldn't break away this week.

maybe next time, can't wait to hear all the tasting notes and fun that was had by all.
