for us CDP newbies, can someone please give us an idea of what area we should be looking at for a hotel so we can shuttle out to the 'burbs with the other out of towners?

newsguy- At the last CDP, I think most out of towners stayed near Wrigley Field on the North Side (Lakeview neighborhood).

Otis- Here is a goegraphical breakdown of your CDP guests:

Illinois- 26 (not incl. you and your neighbors)
Canada- 10
Texas- 9
California- 5
Maryland- 5
Florida- 4
Michigan- 3
Ohio- 3
Oregon- 2
New York- 2

I might be missing someone.

Last year the shuttle had 2 stops- one at a Best Western on Clark street near Wrigley (a bunch of the Canadian crew stayed there), and another Downtown, off of Michigan Ave, which is really the heart of downtown Chicago. I would imagine that something similar will happen again this year, especially the downtown stop. It will depend on where everyone decides to stay.

The other option for out-of-towners is to stay in Northbrook, where Otis lives, or somewhere nearby. He can probably give better advice than I can. If your intent is to experience Chicago while you're here then Northbrook isn't ideal unless you want to do a lot of driving (probably a 30-40 minute drive when there's no traffic).

The problem wasn't driving to breakfast. The problem was driving after breakfast.
And I promise this year to:
a- no slidders
b- be more reasonable on the consumption (but no promise)
c- have a more reasonable breakfast

Aaaggggghhhhh!!!!!

You drive like a psycho NYC cabbie!!!! Being insanely hungover may have effected my preception of your driving ability though. Razz Big Grin

BTW... if you DO drive, we will need to install some kind of super turbo AC for carriedca. Wouldn't want him sweating all over the upholstry again.

You definately need some Indiana representation. I can demonstrate my walking taco making techniques.

Can you add me to the wait list? Indybob+1 if possible.

Cheers, and thanks for the generosity!

Some recommended hotels in the Northbrook area (all within 10 minute drive of my casa):

Radisson

Reanaissance Chicago North Shore (Marriott)

Westin Chicago North Shore - Just opened. Really nice.

As Grossie said, Northbrook is typical North Shore suburbia. Chicago is where the action is (except for the evening of 8/11!). If you want to feel the buzz of the Windy City, probably best to stay downtown.

Cheers,

Otis

I included Grossie as a local since he carries a CWM membership card in addition to his green card.

I never got my membership card. Actually I never applied, I was somehow convinced that I was a member of the CWM despite my protestations.

Tbird,

As Een said, the Cubs are not in town that weekend and I don't have any interest in setting up a White Sox outing. Someone will probably set up a dinner on Friday night (I'm not volunteering).
