Bocado has offered to do a special menu for us of dishes not on the current menu. It sounds pretty nice to me!:

1st Course: Marinated duck breast, glazed endives, blood orange & trufe vinaigrette

2nd Course: Porcini mushroom & roast fennel boullion, minced pork belly & chive tortellini

3rd Course: Beef tenderloin medallions, Barolo & shallots compote

Dessert: Fig and Porto tartuffo

I've asked if the pork can be changed or omitted as I think some may have dietary restrictions. Cost would be $45 plus tax and tip, and $10 a bottle corkage, which is a reduction in the usual price for us.

Please let me know if anyone has a problem with this. If not, I'll confirm with Bocado. I've asked if ordering from the regular menu is an option but I expect it is not.

Well done Bman!

Sounds excellent and very reasonably priced. Can't beat that corkage fee.

I could do without the pork bellies, though. Something about my ultra-religious jewish grandmother's guilt still over my head.

I'm not sure what I'm bringing (wine wise), but it will pair nicely with the tenderloin.

Is anyone bringing a champagne or white for starters? How many ports do you think we should have? Would you like me to bring something sweet (other than my wife)? PLMK

I was thinking of you when I made the comment about the port. Let's see what the restaurant tells me.

I have a 97 German riesling that many of us (in Ontario at least) probably own, otherwise I have no whites that meet the 10-year-old-or-older theme. And no champagne either.

I'll bring a full bottle of port. I have some Aussie tawny stickies that are old, but I expect this crowd may not be crazy about Aussie dessert wines, and you know that I will never say no to more than one port!!

Finally, I mean it when I say tha I hope your wife will join us. I know what you said, but if she were to attend an out-of-town offline, this would be the one.

Hi,

I'm fine with the menu no issues at all my only question is if we can get cheese and bread for the "desert" part? Can we order that extra?

Great prices too.!! Looking foward to it.

I can bring a bottle of Porto as well just please let me know.

Thanks for organizing this.

Can You post the address as well that would be most appreciated.

Bocado sounds great and it speaks well of them, with their initiative to arrange a special menu for us. Sounds like the way to go, bman. CONFIRM! Wink

I haven't considered the whites or Champagne yet. I would think we COULD make and exception and break the 10 year minimum for the whites. Razz

Bocado sounds great, nice menu and very reasonable prices...

I am very lean on 10+ years old whites, so unless we waive the age limit, I'm going to have to concentrate on the reds.

I think I'll be the first to declare what I'm planning to bring to the offline:

1) 1995 Beaucastel (magnum)- ought to go around. I realize we only have to bring a 750mL, but I'm overwhelmed by the response and can't think of a better time to try it.

2) 1980 Chateau Yquem (Parker liked it more than WS). I've had it before, and though not one of the classics, it's still PDG.

3) 1991 Taylor Fladgate (if we should not happen to have had enough wine by the end).

Cool Setting the bar, Dok! Nice!

I still reserve the right to adjust for the moment, however the choices will be worthy. Promise! Big Grin

I'm wondering a bit, but I'm leaning toward 1986 Leoville Barton and one to yet be decided.

You are right Steve, forgot about these babies...

I'm thinking I'll bring a 1982 Palmer, and maybe some Musar from a vintage to be determined.

Geez Dok, I think the Beaucastel mag and the d'Yquem might be enough for one person to bring! Eek Eek Eek Cool Or are you hinting that your Sweetie is coming along after all?

If we're not tasting blind, then let's start posting what we're bringing, if we know. I'll bring a 1977 Dow vintage port. I'll decide on the other bottle once I see what some of the others are.

I've heard from Bocado and they will let people order whatever they like, but they would like to know how many will choose the menu that's been prepared for us (in which veal has been substituted for the pork, BTW). So please let me know ASAP if you will take that set-meal offer or order from the regular menu, which you can find here: http://www.ottawafood.com/media/BocadoMenu.pdf (for some reason the menu on the website doesn't load as well and there's no prices).

Looks excellent Bman. To keep it simple, I'll go with the menu they've prepared (with the veal). It seems very reasonably priced, and if it's as good as they say, it's better value than Bekta. Well done.

Hi, well if we are declaring, I'll declare with the right to change my mind.

Rauzan-Segla '95
Batailley Pauillac '90

Seems to be you have a lot of desert wines so let me know if I need to bring one.

I hope these 2 are ok.

I'll keep it simple and take the set menu for my husband and myself.

Thanks great job!
Hope these wines are ok with everyone

MM,
I've had the '95 Rauzan-Segla and it was fabulous. I'll be looking forward to the '90 Batailley. These are more than OK!

Dr. C,

Though Bman is organizing the offline, I see no reason to limit the number of attendees, providing the restaurant has suitable space and people appreciate that they may not get to sample all of the wines. There is certainly a huge contingency from Montreal, and I'd finally like to meet as many members of the MWP as possible. It's shaping up to be quite the event.
Too bad more TWC members are not attending.

(Looking at other threads, if anyone has any '47 or '49 Cheval Blanc, you get to be the guest of honour!)

Some "jet-set" lifestyle. I'm in Ottawa in March to attend meetings for 9 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday. The good news:
I get to offline with both the Ottawa and Montreal forumites.
