I'll be in Miami for the Nasdaq-100 and need to build in some time for good wine and good food. If anyone in the area is available/interested, maybe we can meet up.

I'm interested. I live in North Dade and I could look for a place to house the event.

You can reach me at edj33160@yahoo.com.

Thanks for speaking up, Emery.

The times I will be available are Sunday March 26 in the afternoon, or on Monday and Tuesday evening March 27-28.

It's still early days yet, so we might wait to see if anyone else wants to join in. But I'll send you an e-mail to establish contact.

I do not know if the restaurant is still around, but years ago the food at Marks Place was excellent. EDJ have you ever eaten there?

on the wine,

I think I would be available on Sunday afternoon. Not sure about the other days. Would you be interested in eating at the Enoteca again?

Sure would, Emilio. Good food and an excellent selection of wine. (Last year, I took my wife and kids there during a short stopover in Miami.) It will be great to get together with you folks again too.

Can you post more information about the location and we'll see if it might be suitable for EDJ to fit in with?

Not sure what our schedule is. I will check with MLV and see if we can make it.

The name is Graziano's Next Door Pizzeria/Enoteca and it's on the NW corner of SW 40th Street (Bird Rd.) and SW 92nd Avenue. Hopefully several others from our local group can attend as well.

What time in the afternoon would work for you?

Sounds very nice. I'll circle these days on my calendar. I guess we can firm things up once the date gets closer.

Sunday afternoon may be Ok for me....but I have a family B-day that day...not sure what time yet. I also prefer a place that is more central, like Miami, since I am in North Dade. South Miami is quite a trip, and with drinking.... :-(

Let's keep planning.

I will be travelling between March 8 and 21, with only occasional access to the internet. Then I will only be home between March 21-23 before taking off for Florida. So I hope we can settle on something before I go. If not, you'll have to leave me word about where and when.

I will be staying at the Courtyard Marriott on 2nd Ave in downtown Miami, and I will be outfitted with a luxury Dodge Neon, so I can get to anywhere you decide on. If you want to stay with Graziano's Next Door, I'd be all for it - but if you want to change it up, I'm game for that too.

on the wine,

Waited to see if there was any other interest but now that we are only a week away and close to the March 21-23 window of your access to a computer thought we could firm things up. Looks like it may just be a mini-offline since Sunday is the only good day for us but would still enjoy getting together. We will be at Graziano's about 1:00 PM if you'd like to meet us there, that will definitely keep you well clear of 6:30 PM, plenty of time for some good food and wine. Maybe you can work something out separately with EDJ for any of the days following. If you'd prefer another time other than 1:00 PM let me know. We'll look forward to it!

Ok, I'm back, and it's time to think about Miami and bring this plan to a head...

Emilio,

I'd be happy to meet you at Graziano's at 1:00pm on Sunday. And since they have a good selection of wine for sale there, I don't have to worry about finding something to bring with me. It would have been nice to meet some of the other people from your area, but it's quality not quantity that counts. And maybe we'll get some last-minute takers to join in.

EDJ,

I'm sorry you can't make it on Sunday. I am available on Monday and Tuesday evenings, although I can't see myself being able to get to a restaurant before about 8:30 in the evening depending where I had to go. (It's a fairly long hike to get back to downtown Miami from Crandon Park each day.) But if that still has any interest for you, then make a specific suggestion and we can try to make it work.

In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find wines from any of the following producers:
    Melville (pinot)
    Ramey (2003 chard)
    Copains (syrah)
    Schrader

on the wine,

Sounds great, we will see you there! I remember in this thread you had mentioned the Schrader and the Shafer Relentless which were both available at the time. If you'd like I can check on Saturday and see if they are still available and if so, how much they cost and let you know on Sunday. If I remember right both the Schrader and the Relentless were the '02 vintage.

Emilio,

I would much appreciate it. I forgot to list the Relentless in yesterday's post, but I am glad you remembered it.

See you on Sunday.

Emilio,

Thanks for a very pleasant get-together on Sunday. In spite of saying I wasn't looking for any more riesling, I did go to Crown on Hwy 1 and couldn't resist picking up a couple of the '03 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Eisweins. (The $60 price tag is a great value.) I also picked up a bottle of '04 Loring Clos Pepe and '03 Sea Smoke at Sunset Corners. Thanks for suggesting these wine shops. The total list of purchases to this point are here.

We also did go to Graziano's main restaurant on Monday evening - without even trying to make a reservation this time. I'm glad we did, it was a very good meal and the wine list is better/larger than at their enoteca Next Door.

on the wine,

Wow! You really scored. I didn't even know that Sunset Corners had the Sea Smoke. I think you'll love the '04 Loring Clos Pepe, it was my favorite at the tasting Brian had there. Happy to see you found the Yacochuya, this wine is much bigger and heavier than the '04 Patriota we had for lunch so plan on having this with a nice steak.

Monday was probably a very good day to go to the main restaurant as they wouldn't normally be that busy. Glad you enjoyed it and please let us know when you're back in town next time, we'll look forward to getting together again!

Emilio - I just saw the April 5 issue of the WS Insider which lists W H Smith 2004 Pinot Noir as a 'Hot Wine' with a rating of 94. I'm pretty sure I saw it at the wine shop in a plaza on Hwy 1 at about 120th Street. I hope you know the shop I mean, and this info is of use to you. It's one of the wines I was thinking of buying, but didn't because I wasn't sure about it.

I know exactly the place you're talking about. Thanks for the heads up, I'll see if I can get over there soon. I did see the Insider with the 94 rating for the Maritime Vineyard but considering they only made 539 cases I'm afraid the one you saw may have been the Sonoma Coast which got the 90 rating. But I will definitely check it out!

Now that you've jogged my memory, I think it may have been just the Sonoma pinot. You might phone them and ask. If so, sorry about the false alarm.
