You are right.

I'm always a little surprised how few "wine lovers" and even Champagne lovers know more than 6 or so Champagne houses.

I think Champagne is still one of the best QPR's around. Many under $35 to pick from for sure.

Thanks to wine+art, I've learned that champagne can be a beautiful palate cleanser. Win, watch out, that doesn't mean I won't continue to try and nick your crackers.
