Bman,

I agree but there has been 11 bottles sitting in my local store for almost a year and I want to try it to see if it is worth buying more @ $75CAD. Smile

If you bring the 01 Sizeranne, I have one bottle of the 98 that we could open side by side.

We will be trying out a few recipes for appetizers and desserts this weekend. We might try to do another main as well.

We should have a final menu on monday, so we can plan the wines accordingly.

Sheesh! Pizza would be fine.Smile Don't go crazy on this dinner as you are doing me a huge favour by having me over at the end of my business trip.

Of course, I might have to bring a "magnum" of Mouton Cadet now to help compensate you for your efforts. Razz Big Grin

P.S. My boss can drive me from Kanata to your place between 5 and 6pm if that isn't too early.

I will being your 2002 De Vogue and 1998 Dead Arm but not the Catena. Smile

As of now the 2001 La Sizeranne and 1997 E&E Black Pepper are the wines I am bringing to drink unless the menue calls for something different.

I did a search and noticed that I served the 2000 Nepenthe zin to carriedca and Board-O.

Since the wines are veering towards the Northern Rhone I thought of one of those, but in fact I have only two that are ready, but one of them is the 1998 Nobles Rives Hermitage, which WS scored 92 points. The other is the 2000 Nobles Rives Cornas. I'm guessing that you two would prefer the 98 Hermitage? I'd still bring the 98 Horrick cab and a half of one of my Campbell stickies.

Comments? (and don't say "whatever you think is best, bman", I want some direction here! Big Grin)

Ok, we finalized the menu.

Hors D'oeuvre: Pesto on crostini
Wine: Pelorus (either NV or the 2000),
Appetizer: Crepes with Asparagus & shrimp with Chardonnay Sabayon sauce
Wine: NZ Sauvignon Blanc or Chablis (not sure yet)
First Course: Tenderloin with herbed blue cheese topping, roasted carrots (from my garden), green or yellow beans
Wine: Reds (Baird & Bman? Cabs or shiraz)
Second Course: Rosemary & mustard seed crusted Leg of Lamb on the spit, Rosemary smoked roasted potatoes, roasted pepper (red/orange/yellow)
Wine: 98 & 01 Hermitage la Sizeranne
Dessert: Blueberry lemon zest tart with creme fraiche
Wine: 93 Quintarelli Recioto

And Baird, don't complain or I'll serve you Kraft dinner with wieners! Razz Wink while we eat the good stuff.

No news from Steve8.

Roll call is:
Carriedca (2)
Baird
Bman (2)

I'm opening up a half bottle. I also have a full bottle that I'm saving for later.

Can I put my name on the 750? I'll be your best friend. Well, next to Finnigan and Casey, that is.

Which do you prefer? The Recioto or the Amarone? I have both

Beggars can't be choosers. I'd be happy simply trying either.

Sorry for not responding sooner. Appreciate the invite, but I want to spend a few days at home. I've been on the road a lot lately.

Steve8,

No problem. We'll have another offline at the end of October, 29th I think?

Bman, I had the Cornas recently and it isn't ready IMO.

Carriedca, The menu sounds awesome.

P.S. I LIKE K.D. with weiners! Razz Big Grin The weiners bring the normally white wine dish to a place where a nice Pinot Noir goes perfectly.

Carriedca/Bman,

I was thinking that the Chapoutier might be a tad young. I will still bring it if you and Bman want but after looking in the cellar, I began to consider a) 1999 Bell Beritelle Napa Cab (absolutely amazing stuff!) or b) 2000 Catena ALTA Malbec (also amazing).

Let me know if the Sizeranne is to be packed or one of the others.

See you on Fri!

Doesn't matter what you bring. The Bell or Chapoutier. If you don't bring the Sizeranne, I won't open mine. I'll have to figure out what to open instead

Small change to menu.

No beans with the beef. Couldn't find any nice yellow or green beans anywhere.

The evening was great. Fabulous food, fabulous wine and fabulous company.

Only downside was that Quintarelli Recioto was corked.
We opened a half bottle of 01 d'Arenberg Fortified shiraz/port. Still too young but great potential.

And no glasses were broken. Big Grin

No broken glasses??? I find that hard to believe!

Question about the fortified shiraz; How much longer do you think it needs? I was thinking of opening one to see if I should get some of the 2002 which was released today. Thoughts...

Thanks again to the Carriedcas.

It was a great night even though I had a wicked cold (Again! Damn Ottawa Valley!) and could smell almost NOTHING.Frown

The food was great, The wines were ok. my E&E Black Pepper was disappointing and didn't perform anywhere close to the bottle I brought to an offline a year ago and I'm very glad I only bought one bottle of the 01 Sizeranne.

My WOTN would have to be the 98 La Sizeranne and the D'Arenberg Port was much better than expected. It was a lot less "weird" and more like a traditional VP that when last tasted. Reminded me of a young VP from a lesser shipper in an average year.

The company as usual was fantastic as it is always fun to see the Carriedcas and Bmans. It was a real treat to spend Friday evening with these folks. After a gruelling couple of days in business meetings in Ottawa, it was great to be able to relax with great company and truly laugh my ass off. Man, some of the conversations were priceless. Big Grin

See you on Friday, Carriedca's and I am hoping to hook up with Bman and Mrs. in the not so distant future as well.

P.S. NO RIEDEL WINE GLASSES WERE HARMED DURING THIS OFFLINE (a few very close calls though!) and no crank calls were made at 3:00am. Razz Roll Eyes

You're welcome Baird.

I'm glad everyone had fun. It was a great evening.

Oakville_al,
for what it's worth, the d'arenberg fortified shiraz/port is very young. Not shiraz notes, and tasted like a young tight/closed port, but not massive. I would give this another 5 years minimum (if not more).

Baird, what are you talking about when you say close calls?? Confused
What the heck were you guys doing while I was outside BBQ'ing??? Confused Mad

And nocraks calls you say. Roll Eyes You kept calling some woman and kept calling her bunny!? Razz
I better not have any (976-sexy) charges on my phone bill. Mad Big Grin

I have to agree with Baird for the wines.
The '98 Hermitage Sizeranne was probably the best wine of the night.

Mind you, the bottle of '97 Ripa delle More was great. Maybe number #2 wine of the evening. (maybe it looked like I was sleeping but I could still taste the wine).
