I will be in Ottawa on business on Sept 15th and 16th and would like to hook up with some of the Ottawa forumites if they are available. I have booked a flight leaving the afternoon of Saturday the 17th.

Bman? Carriedca? Anyone else?

Cool. Thanks Carriedca!

I'll contact the airline to arrange a shipping container for all the wines I will be bringing for you. Wink Big Grin

Any TWC folks out there will Aeroplan or Airmiles to burn? Big Grin

If it's the Friday night we should be free, but of course I need to check with the Social Secretary first.

Excellent. I think a Vintage Port is in order then. Big Grin

The Mrs. and I have already started thinking about a menu.
One appetizer upon arrival.
One more appetizer while we sit down.
Two main courses. (one will probably be rotisserie leg of lamb, the other either chicken or beef.)
Veggies.
Cheese and fruit.
Dessert.

There's some NV and 2000 vintage Pelorus coming out in the Sept. vintage Release. Might open up one vintage bubbly to start off, and either a red or a dessert wine.

Just make sure the Pelorus doesn't explode in the car on the way back from the LCBO. Razz

I can barely remember what I have in my cellar any more. We realized last night at the BBR offline that the top 77 ports really are not yet ready, but perhaps an 83 port, or an Aussie stickie?

Bman, doesn't have to be vintage port. It can be single quinta or even a good traditional LBV.
I've got some 20 (or is it 30) year old Tawny halfs.

Futronic: I'll make sure to wear goggles and a safety hat in case it explodes. Razz

I can bring a '92 Quinta do Vesuvio or a 1991 Taylor Vargellas.

My last bottle of each, but you guys (actually, the spouses) are worth it. Razz Big Grin

I will also bring a really good red. Cali or Aussie. Or maybe an older Catena Alta Malbec.

Leave the ports at home Baird, they don't travel well and between carriedca and I we have dessert wines out the yin-yang. Any red you bring, especially New World (hint, hint Wink) will be worth drinking!

BTW, the Social Secretary has confirmed that we have no conflict, so count us in for two.

What else can we bring besides wine and our pretty faces?

Have either of you tried the '97 E&E Black Pepper or Elderton Command? I could bring one of those. Maybe a 2002 Neal Cab as I have a few bottles and never tried a Neal wine.

Let me know and I will bring a couple of good bottles.

Baird,

I drank our last bottle of 97 Command a few weeks ago. Excellent wine, with lost of time ahead. As for E&E Black Pepper, I've only had the 98, and didn't see the reason for the price difference between it and the Ebenezer.
But whatever you bring, I'm sure it will be great (and no mouton cadet! Wink)

It is still early to plan wines though, since we still have to figure out the food.

What DC said, anything you bring will be good and appreciated. We can discuss in Chicago in any case, though we'd better do so early in the evening if it's at the CDP......

Time to discuss our wines for this offline, no?

How about an Aussie theme? (yes, I know I'm a one-trick pony!). I have a Nepenthe zinfandel and a 98 Ravenswood Hollick Coonawarra that would be something you've probably not tried (or did I bring the Oz zin to a previous Ottawa offline?). I also have some favourite 98 Aussie zins. And I now have some Campbell dessert wines that are supposed to be fab.

Of course, if anyone feels otherwise, I am happy to go with the flow.....

Why don't I bring the 1997 Black Pepper and another bottle?

Ha! Black Pepper Shiraz it is.

I can also bring a Kaisler Stonehorse Shiraz (Parker always rates this wine highly and we can't get it in Canada), a 2001 Chapoutier La Sizeranne or a 1999 Pontet Canet. Any preference?

Main course is rosemary/mustard seed crusted leg of lamb cooked on a spit.

Shiraz or Syrah would go well.

The 2001 la Sizeranne must be too young, no? Confused I thought this was a ten year plus wine.

And not to be a heretic, but if I bring two and a half bottles, and you two bottles; a single bottle from carriedca would still add up to more than one full bottle per person, with betterhalves probably not carrying their weight, getting-blotto-wise!

On another matter, I don't suppose we should try to entice anyone from Montreal (hello Steve8!) to come down, should we?

Steve8 is more than welcomed to join us, although it is a long drive after a full days work (unlike us public servants where we can take time off) Razz
