Zin! I had the '03 Rosenblum, and thought it was pretty amazing juice. While the '04 seems just a tab less robust, there are now at least eight others out there that seem to carry a unique terroir for this new AVA. These puppies run into the high 16's (%alc) too, for the liver challenged out there.

Actually I have his old laptop as mine now since I had to buy him a more powerful one for school. I still have problems dealing with the keypad on the laptop, I guess my fingers are too fat.

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Do you have a date/location set up yet? The Cru is discussing doing sushi/champagne in DC probably at Sushi-Ko but not set date yet so I don't want to double book myself...

Richard, if you go to the WS MD outing they will think that all of the DC Cru are old farts like us. Eek

Actually, they are a great bunch and if I can make it I will. The 20th would be the best night for me. I haven't participated with them as much as I'd like because they always have the dinners somewhere past Cairo Egypt where the METRO don't go.

Din...

I'd like to think of us as "more experienced" rather than being old farts....but you're right....we skew the demographic of the Cru in an upward manner, not a downward one...

Looking forward to hooking up with the WS group and hopefully they'll be waiting with open arms and empty glasses....

If the 20th works for GF, then it works for me, too!

Any ideas for a location/theme? I wouldn't mind going back to the Rooster. I haven't scorched anything in awhile!

I'm in for the 20th. The Rooster sounds great. That boy can cook. Cool

Have we ever done a Bordeaux event? Confused Me thinks not......

irwin, you wanna check with Mark and see if he's OK for a group on Saturday?

PH

OOPS! Just read your post, irwin. Eat and drink less elsewhere. The group would not be the same without you... Frown

We will be away the weekend of Jan 19-21. The Rooster is always good for us.
Now, I have made a very serious and sincere New Year resolution to eat less and drink less, and exercise more, to lose weight, so I may be not available for our monthly festivals. However, if the past is prologue, by mid-January, that resolution will be long since forgotten and ignored, and I'll be back in business.

First off, Happy New Year, everyone!

Irwin, since you're gone the weekend of the 20th, are there any dates that work for you and yours? After missing the last three, we can't let you make it four!

hi, PH. the mrs. and i are likely in for any friday or saturday other than 1/13. with my work situation, sundays are out unless the site is in D.C., and that looks not to be the case here. unless...

... mr. and mrs. klymkev decide to open up their lovely home to us on a monthly basis. the last offline was such a hit i make a motion that we adopt their dupont circle abode as our clubhouse! Big Grin Wink

Were you laughing as hard while typing this as I was when I read it? Big Grin

Of course I would love to institute a revolving offline. Nothing like home field advantage at an offline.

However, as much as my wife LOVED each and every one of you, she would probably revolve me right out the door at the "clubhouse" suggestion.

I think I am out this month boys. I am travelling a lot and going through the purchase of a vacation home, so I'm tied up.

Hope to make it out in February.

And I will definately watch to see what you slackers end up putting together.

Okay, since no one seems interested in doing anything this month, I'm just going to throw a bottle of Thunderbird in a paper bag and go sit on a streetcorner somewhere...

I'll call up the Rooster today and see what I can come up with. Just lemme know: Saturday the 20th or Sunday the 21st?

Kev: Congrats on the vacation home!

No problem, Irwin. I forgot I've got a bunch of stuff going on that weekend as well. I called Mark and we're booked for Sunday the 28th. 6:30pm. Breadbasket bonfire at 9:00!

Mark will going to create a four course menu for us. He'll email it to me as we get closer.

I hope that works for everyone! So who's in?
Bordeaux theme?

You guys thought travelling to DC was far for an offline?

The "vacation"/ "part time rental" for anyone interested (once we actually close and clean the joint up) is in Wintergreen, VA.

Amenities include skiing (except of course, for this year due to El Nino, La Nina, or whoever is responsible for 70+ temps. in January) golf (45 holes) spa, Charlottsville in a half an hour, etc.

Financing via assorted varietals may be arranged.

The 28th will work for me!

What about a slight "variation" to the Bordeaux theme in that we bring varietals popular there, but not necessarily "from" there? I'd be interested in bottlings from other regions whose style, (in the opinion of the contributor), seems to emulate Bordeaux. It may be fun to compare/contrast as I am sure France will be well represented!
