Cool ..... I guess I'll get to taste over 200 more than you. HA HA I'll be there in a dirty shirt w/ a stupid look on my face. Are you gonna bring a big assortment of stems so that you can properly taste all of the selections? Anyway, it's lots of fun.

Any other CWM going to this? Anyone coming in from out of town?

I see now that they will have 970 wines and claim that this is the " Nation's Largest Public Wine Tasting".

haggis,

I will be there as well. I am picking up Scott MacDonald at the train station at 11:03, and driving right to the tasting. Perhaps you and the Ms. will be there at the same time. VM will also be there at that time.

Nothing like drinking before noon. Gonna try to get there by 11:30, and stumble out by...

I want to see Scott run through all 970 wines in his typical sprinter fashion.

This'll be a game time decision for me...

If anyone can taste through that many wines, it would be Scott!

LOL ..... I'll be there w/ the opening of the doors. I don't do French, so all 970 is out for me. But I'll be more than happy to knock off all the rest. I have a designated driver already lined up. I'll be the fat guy in a dirty sweater. Who's bringing a scorecard ???

I think I'll be going, probably from around 10-noon. Not totally sure though...

I'll be the one with a clipboard and some think hanging around my neck to "spit" into...

So what did everybody think? Which wines were memorable? How do you get home safely with that many wines available?

Well I saw Scott, JCubed, Scubarex, Francis and Haggis at this tasting. I've posted some notes and will post the rest later this week. I probably got through 40 wines or so.

Francis on the other hand claims to have tasted 200+ wines. All while he was chewing gum. Can't wait to see his notes. Somehow I think peppermint will dominate.

OK smartass. I wasn't chewing any gum. And the total, from my well documented tasting booklet, was 233. The first 120 have legitamit markings, the next 113 have some type of hieroglyphic notation. As for "notes" ......... Well, I came home wearing both my watch and ring, and my shirt and sweater weren't ripped up ... so I guess I didn't offend anyone enough to get me beat up. Outside of that ... Chris Hatcher is a big jerk, and most of his Wolf Blass stuff sucked. The Inniskillin and Jackson-Triggs stuff was very enjoyable. I didn't know until then that Penfolds made a port. I'll be buying some of that soon. The selection of flavored olive oils were very tasty, And lastly, I really can't see why so many forumites get such a hardon over Dead Arm. OK ?

I could have sworn that was gum. My bad.

I did not like the 2002 Dead Arm all that much either.

The Dead Arm was not showing well. I've had it before and it was really very good. I don't know what the deal was.

I really liked the '01 Cape D'Estaing. It had a great Rhone-like quality that I don't typically associate with Australian shiraz. The fruit and peppery elements, along with the oak were in great balance. HI=92pts

Contrast that with some of the other more typical Australian shiraz which were mega fruit bombs. Examples are the Henry's Drive, which really did very little for me.

In the middle between these two extremes was the '01 Kay Brothers (Amery Vyd), which had the fruit accentuated, but with some Rhone character to go along with it. HI=90pts.
