This looks like a great trip. I did almost the same trip 10 years ago but stopped at Las Vegas. You will have fun.
You can bring at least two bottles of wine into the USA with no DUTY. Extras cost duty. You can read more at the US Customs website site at this link
If you are going to El Paso first then you are probably flying to Dallas or Houston first, yes? Let me know if you have a layover. I will meet you at the airport.
Hey Tsunami, have a great time. In 1998, my (German) wife and I saw many of the national parks you are going to. Our favorite was Bryce Canyon.
Does anyone know the Park Service's open-bottle policy (remember, America has puritanical attitudes toward alcohol). When we were camping, you could drink wine or beer at your campsite but you had to keep your bottle hidden, e.g. in a cooler. Have they changed their approach?

Unless it has changed all US Parks and almost all State Parks prohibit alcohol. However, it is very common to do it anyway. You wouldn't get in any trouble as long as you conceal it and are not drunk.

That would be a new one on me, especially since every National Park I've ever been to sold alcohol. I've never seen rules prohibiting alcohol in overnight areas. Openly drinking on trails and in some day use areas may be illegal, but prohibited period is just wrong. Also, at least from a California perspective State Parks allow alcoholic beverages in overnight areas as well, but may restrict their use in day use areas. I'd love to hang out and pop a cork with you Tsunami, Yosemite or SF may be possible.

i'm sorry we flight with delta and stop at atlanta.
cbmac,
i don't think that i'm going to drink alcohol when we are inside a national park!
i asked because we like to bring someting if we can have a cance to meet some wine-lovers.
Pinot Envy,
we thought after hikeing (or riding) up the grand canyon we will arrive on top about 12.00 and are sertainly very tired after that we thought it will be a too long drive to las vegas that's the reason for a stop in kingman.
do you have a better suggestion?
stealthman_1,
cool yosemite would be a great chance, or maybe we have an offline in san francisco

The chopped liver expression is a colloquialism. It's an indication of worthlessness, though I don't understand how the expression arose. What the phrase meant was something akin to: What's New York, not worthy of a visit?
It was just a joke. When I posted it, I realized you might not know what I meant.
Just one more sip.

tsunami, LadyR and I have visited quite a few of the destinations you are going to visit and StevieC has been to the US numerous times. I think we'll have a great time during our offline discussing all those gorgeous places!
