Here is the e-mail I received for the tasting.
Please join us as we taste the Wines of Argentina on Friday February 24, 2006 at the store - 10590 N Kendall Drive from 5.30pm to 8.00pm.
Argentina has been on a roll. Wine quality continues to improve with Malbec as the signature varietal & Mendoza the lead wine-producing region, enjoying a run of good vintages. Wine Spectator gave 2002, 2003 & 2004 vintages from 90 to 94 points.
We have chosen the following wines from these three vintages. Some of them are highly allocated.
Terrazas de los Andes
2003 Malbec - WS 88 points
2003 Reserva Malbec - WS 90 points
2002 Afincado (single vyd) Malbec - WS 90 points
2002 Cheval des Andes - WS 92 points
** Cheval des Andes is collaboration between Terrazas de los Andes & Ch Cheval Blanc. It is a New World tribute to the historic Bordeaux Blend - Cabernet, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
Achaval Ferrer
2004 Malbec Mendoza - WS 91 points
2003 Quimera Mendoza - WS 92 points
** A blend of old vine Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This wine offers a multitude of charecteristics achieving what an ideal wine should be.
Norton
2003 Privada Mendoza - WS 91 points
** A blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Trapiche
2003 Malbec Oak Cask
2003 Pinot Noir Oak Cask
2003 Malbec Broquel
2003 Vina Pedro Gonzalez Malbec - WS 90 points
** With every vintage the winemaker chooses the three best Malbec wines from thier exceptional vineyards, produced separately, to communicate diversity. We chose to taste Pedro Gonzalez.
Dona Paula
2004 Estate Chardonnay
2004 Estate Malbec
2002 Seleccion de Bodega Malbec - WS 90 points
** This wine comes from the oldest vines of the Dona Paula Estate. It is a single vineyard planted 1,000 meters above sea level in the highest area of Lugan de Coyo, which is the best terroir for Malbec.
Look forward to seeing you.
