would anyone be up for an offline? Granted, it's 10 weeks away, and it may not happen in any case, but we are working on a family holiday that would see us spend a few days in Westchester (an affordable base from which to visit NYC), thanks to Mr. Marriottrewards, and I'd like to know who might be up for an offline.
Even if we do go, the family might put the kibosh on an offline, since it's probably one of the last times we'll get away as a complete family (kids age too!), and they still don't really understand my fixation on these forums, or on wine in general, for that matter! And we already have a couple of nights tentatively scheduled.
I'd also be interested in tips on things to do the area, since we'll be driving, and so may spend a day out of NYC if there are other things to see and do nearby. ADvice on good take away food (stuff we can take back to the room with a bottle of wine) in White Plains would also be appreciated.
bman, I'll do what I can, but the timing is bad for us. Our closest friends' son is getting married on August 7th and our son is getting married on August 14th. We'll be away on vacation and won't be returning til the night of August 2nd. I would love to work something out-possibly a dinner in our home with another couple or two. Let me know what days you'll be here and what days you're free. Looking forward to seeing you and bwoman in 8 days.

We don't have any specific dates for any evening outings yet, we just know that we want to take the kids to see a show one night, and my wife and myself will probably have a "date-night" one evening, just the two of us. That would leave three evenings free for something else (not counting arrival night).
I've already stood up a half bottle of vintage port I want you and carriedca to try (a half only because I know there will be other dessert wine goodies!) for next Sunday, and the menu is set. If I'm not as happy as a little girl, I'm pretty close!
Have you tried the Buller Muscat yet? I have a bottle ready to go, but can substitute any number of others. I thought it might go well with some of the Byward Market pastries after dinner Saturday.

I actually wasn't that crazy about it, though I loved the Chambers muscadelle. Can't really say why except that the latter seemed smoother and creamier, while the former had a bit of an edge to it.
