My first offline ever, and I can summarize it by the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Good (should actually be "The Great" but I like to stick with convention):
The people - I had a super time at the table with Futronic, his Vincor friend, Basecadet, StarV100 and Starbabe
The restaurant - great food and super friendly service
The wines - yikes, I've never had so much good juice in one evening. The wines that really did it for me were
1998 Penfolds Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvedre Old Vine
2002 Goldeneye Pinot Noir
2000 Elderton CSM
2001 Dominus (WoTN, not what I was expecting, yet it still surpassed my expectations)

Thanks for the coaching on storage for the Odyssey, that stuff is jetfuel. Eek

The bad:
I missed out on meeting both Slan and bman.
Being a newbie, I did not pace myself (see next section), and as a result, the quality of my pictures also suffered. Frown

The ugly:
Me, this morning, looking for the Advil.

Fut, if you can put me in touch with your friend that would be great. I would like to get her contact at Kim Crawford. My email is vijay dot khurana at gmail dot com.

Thanks all, I really enjoyed myself.

Tannic,
No surprise on the good. The people always have, and probably always will, make the event.
Wine is just the filler.

The ugly gets worse. Count your blessings that the heavy hitters were absent. I won't mention any names (but baird,Carriedca, and bman) would have added to your aggravation. I see Futronic eased you into this. Ata boy fut. The ol' "sting" in full operation.

I intend to attend the next OL in April and hopefully catch up with some of our newest, and finest, recruits. Maybe we'll have some "real" wines (i.e from France) and not the swill you were forced to consume from those derelicts. Wink

Another great night, another great offline!

Nice to have seen all the usuals, and nice to have met Tannic (V, you got off easy...what, 15 bottles for 11 people? It was a slow night by TWC standards!!!)

bman, so sorry you could not attend. Next time! (I replenished my supply this morning, so no worries).

...now, how long do I have to wait for the next one? Roll Eyes

It was a great offline, food and service at Toba was top notch, but the best part off these offlines is the people. Great to meet Tannic, Futs' & Wineguys guests. Bman & Slan, hope to see you at the next one.

A thousand appologies! Red Face

My flight home from March Break in Florida was delayed and I didn't land until around 9:00 last night. I did send an email message out to a few of the TWC folks to give them a heads up on the delay, so hopefully everyone knew I was a doubtful attendee.

Glad to hear everyone had a good time. I'm curious about why bman couldn't make it. Confused And, as I said in my email, I do hope that the wine I left with futronic was enjoyed at the offline!

Enjoyed it and then some. Exceedingly generous, thank you. Smile

Dok, I think I am going to have to pass on the April offline, but I think if one falls in either May or June, I will make it out then.

A thousand apologies for not appearing as promised, especially since this offline was my suggestion in the first place!! Red Face Red Face Red Face

My son was sick with a cold from the day we left Ottawa on Monday, and it only got worse throughout the trip. By Thursday he was such a mess that he spent the day in bed in the hotel. We couldn't make him do another day in bed on Friday, and we weren't getting much sleep anyways with his horking and blowing and sneezing, so we went home instead. And by then, my daughter was also sick, and I was feeling no hell myself.

Nonetheless, I'm glad to hear that you all had a good time, drank great wines (AND, I missed a New World theme and so will no doubt get stuck with more of that soul-less Old World swill at the next offline! Frown - no offence to anyone, of course! Wink). But seriously folks, I at least will return as early as this summer, I hope, for another offline. Maybe it will be time for another New World theme by then! Big Grin

Of all my regrets on missing this offline, perhaps the greatest was missing a chance to taste such "swill". Razz

Slan, have you noticed too, that the tasting notes from offlines are few and far between recently. Mine would be of no value to anyone, so I've never really posted one, but I haven't stopped checking into the OL threads and the TN section AFTER an OL to see if anyone's posted.

I have to confess to being particularly curious to see TNs for the couple of wines that I sent to this event. Any thoughts?

I'm months behind on posting notes as I've been very busy. I'll try to get to the ones from the offline sooner than the others.

In the meantime, Slan, if I recall correctly, the 2000 Chimney Rock Cab you sent was quite nice, and showed better than the 1999 which was a little green for me. I think I gave it around a 90.

I was less impressed with the Chardonnay, as I found it a little flabby and unfocused.
